「水文气候振荡」加剧灾害
「水文气候振荡」(hydroclimate whiplash) 指的是天气在极度潮湿和极度干燥之间的突然剧烈摇摆。这是今年南加州野火如此猛烈的原因之一。在加州,这种现象导致了火灾季节之前,植被茂密生长;而接下来的极端干燥和温暖天气,将这些植被变成了易燃的火药箱。
「水文气候振荡」(hydroclimate whiplash) 指的是天气在极度潮湿和极度干燥之间的突然剧烈摇摆。这是今年南加州野火如此猛烈的原因之一。在加州,这种现象导致了火灾季节之前,植被茂密生长;而接下来的极端干燥和温暖天气,将这些植被变成了易燃的火药箱。
另一个近期的例子是,东非在经历多年干旱后出现的暴雨和洪水,摧毁了数千公顷的农作物,导致超过 200 万人流离失所。
研究发现,自 20 世纪中叶以来,全球的水文气候振荡已增加 31% 至 66%——超过了模型的预测。 由于人类活动引起的气候变化,这一趋势正在加速,预测表明,如果全球气温比工业化前水平上升 3 摄氏度,气候振荡事件可能会增加一倍以上。
气候科学家 Daniel Swain 作为共同作者,合著了一篇关于这一现象的论文,文中指出,适应性措施必须同时考虑到极端湿润和极端干旱的情况。
