我们发现,在重瓣(dbl)向日葵突变体中(管状花发育出两侧对称形态),如文森特·梵高在其19世纪著名向日葵画作中所描绘的那种花型,一个 CYCLOIDEA(CYC)类基因(HaCYC2c)的启动子区域发生了插入突变——该基因在野生型中仅在舌状花中特异性表达,而在突变体中却遍及整个花序表达,由此推测导致了辐射对称性的丧失。同一基因在两个独立的管状舌状花(tub)突变体中也发生了突变,但这些突变涉及明显的近期转座子插入,导致该基因几乎不表达或完全不表达,使原本两侧对称的舌状花发生辐射化。
