Dorothy Tucker
Artist Statement
In 2019 I moved from London to North Norfolk where I continue to be inspired by drawing plants, painting landscape and my extensive research into kantha.
I enjoy mixing colour through pigments and dyes and combining interesting juxtapositions of fabric and thread. Stitching by hand is essential to my working practice. The way I put my work together in layers or patch and piece cloth and often use recycled fabrics has evolved into an on-going process in which colour can be added, areas cut away, revisions made and sometimes repairs necessary. The blobs, spots and speckles, squiggly lines created by drawing and hand stitching now provide me with a repertoire of marks and texture which I can use freely in a wide variety of ways.
I tutor online kantha workshops with Bobby Britnell at Moor Hall Farmhouse www.bobbybritnell.co.uk
