Now you just can not go wrong with some live Joe Cocker, and Pre-FM to boot. This Pre-FM comes from the collection of Krw_co a group of collectors that have a great collection of tapes and discs. They released quite a bit at The Trader's Den which is were I think I got this one from. Their encodings are always top notch as a rule I check out all their releases even audience. This is just like the rest, a great encoding of an awesome Joe Cocker show!

justdave's notes:
This CD is much like the Chicago Toronto Rock'n' Roll Revival recording from 1969. It's one of those grey area CDs. It's considered a legal release, but is not officially recognized by Joe Cocker's Organization. It's been released on many different labels that "licensed it" from some other label. It's had just as many titles, too. No one really knows it's actual legality. It is not listed by Joe Cocker's webpage which is selling all his CDs including a few live albums. I actually bought this double disc at Walmart for 5 dollars U.S.

There is a single CD version of this show floating around trade circles. I however haven't seen a double disc version anywhere myself. This is the entire show. I do believe it is a Pre-FM source but I can not prove that so I labeled it a soundboard recording.

I was actually lucky enough to catch Joe Cocker live once. He was on tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan as his opening act! So I was able to catch Stevie Ray as well. It was at Pine Knob in Clarkston Michigan. Stevie Ray came out and played a full headlining set. An hour and a half of Stevie Ray kicking major ass. He was sober and on fire that year. He died after that tour if my memory is correct (It's always possible that I remember wrong). After Stevie played, Joe Cocker came out and played a blazing hour and a half of his own. When Joe came back for his encore Stevie Ray came out with him. They jammed for at least another half hour before leaving the stage. I actually almost didn't go to the show. My ex-wife's (my wife at the time) Grandmother had day died days earlier. I was unable to take the time off work to travel out of state for the funeral so I stayed home. My friend Gypsy Dan called and said he had tickets to see Cocker (did not mention Stevie Ray). I said I was going to stay home because I would feel guilty going to the show since my wife was going to a funeral. Dan say's "she will understand", (she didn't) then says "just don't tell her" (I did of course). I went, and thinking back, I feel like I did the right thing, so does Rosebud.

6 Degrees Of Led Zeppelin Post # 8

Jimmy Page did a lot of session work prior to forming Led Zeppelin. Jimmy plays guitar on a number of tracks on Joe Cocker's debut album including Joe's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends".

T.U.B.E had this posted over at Guitars 101 a while ago, so thanks go out to Edge for this.

This was a very special concert in Berlin for the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the free people of the GDR. A lot of bands were playing for that reason, and some of the shows were broadcast by SFB 2(Station Free Berlin). Joe Cocker was playing only some of his greatest hits because there was not enough time for a full set. Later that evening he was playing a full show in Denmark. He was only in Berlin a few hours for the event, he then flew to Denmark. So enjoy this part of Berlin's Rock and Roll history.

It's with a heavy heart that I make this post in tribute to Joe Cocker who lost his battle with lung cancer December 22, 2014 at the age of 70. Joe Cocker's music is very important to Rosebud and I. I sang "You Are So Beautiful" to her the night I proposed. If you have been around The New JDP since the beginning you might remember from an earlier post that I proposed to Rosebud at a Black Sabbath/Pantera show. Well I was a little more romantic once we got home from that concert. I turned on a karaoke tape of "You Are So Beautiful", sang the song and went down on one knee.

A nice acoustic performance from the master of song interpretation. I got to see Joe Cocker a few times. The most memorable for me was when I saw Joe Cocker & Stevie Ray Vaughan at Pine Knob together. Stevie opened up the show and played his normal set. Joe Cocker followed and played a stellar headlining set. For the encore prayers were answered and Stevie Ray Vaughan came out and jammed with Joe Cocker and his band. I am so glad that I actually was able to see those awe inspiring sets. Rest in peace Joe, Rock & Roll Never Forgets!

A nice sounding recording from the master of song interpretation. No matter the song when Joe sings it he owns it, changing melody and rhythm, even the key to suit his vision of the song. Every note is delivered with that typical Joe Cocker passion, this show is not to be missed.

An amazing recording, just Joe, a guitar player, a keyboard player and a laptop. The sound is outstanding. You wouldn't know it wasn't a full band backing the man if he didn't tell you at the start of the show. The performance is pure Joe, if your a fan like me you know what I mean. Every song the man sings he owns. He makes it intimately his own, his cover of U2's "One" is a perfect example. His voice seems tailor made to bring out the emotions in the lyric. Please no hate mail Bono is a fantastic vocalist and I love U2's version, but I think even Bono would applaud the master on this one. I can't even begin to put into words the interpretation of the Marvin Gaye classic "What's Going On". Or how he turns Screamin' Jay Hawkins' camp hit "I Put A Spell On You" into a torch song that you only hear on an old jazz 78 rpm record. You'll just have to download it and see.
