This is a re-post and upgrade to this post here which was posted in MP3 320kbps. This one also has slightly different information. The original uploader said this recording was from a date in New York City, New York at an undisclosed location. The info on the CD says it was recorded Live In The U.S.A. '94 so that is the info I am going to use for this upgraded re-post. The CD is also a promo only CD sent to radio stations to promote Joshua Redman. It is a Pre-FM Recording actually, so there you go.

Joshua Redman is the son of Jazz Saxophone Legend Dewey Redman. Dewey Redman had played with them all: Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Flautist Jane Bunnett to name a few. There was a performance from a band called Fathers And Sons which not only had saxophonists Dewey & Joshua Redman but the father son duo Von & Chico Freeman. That band also had Brad Mehldau piano, and Christian McBride on bass, therefore a bigger connection to these 2 posts. The band had been rounded out by Gregory Hutchinson on drums. I picked Jazz artists who I recognized by name and Joshua Redman is definitely one of those. Dave plays him a lot. He even has a special Pandora channel for him...Unlike Dave I don't like what he calls Experimental Jazz...To me it sounds like a bunch of guys playing different songs at once (she says this every time) so there won't be any experimental picks this weekend...This is a very nice show for kicking back and relaxing with a glass of wine and a doobie...

I've been on a bit of a Joshua Redman kick lately. That of course means more Joshua Redman to download. This makes our 15th Joshua Redman related post. There are recordings of Joshua with The Bad Plus, James Farm, Pat Metheny, his Legendary Father Dewey Redman, and his own trios, quartets, etc. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a fan. The thing is, and Rosebud will back me up here, my ferret Chewy is a piano & saxophone Jazz fan. I know it sounds weird but animals do like music and piano & saxophone music makes him lay in front of the stereo, listen and fall asleep. Anything with horns is okay with him actually, including Earth, Wind & Fire. So when he's being a little too mischievous it's Joshua Redman or Joe Lovano time.

The Bad Plus & Joshua Redman have collaborated quite offten, always to awe inspiring affect. This 50 minute set written completely by bassist Reid Anderson is no different. Download this set, turn it up a little loud and enjoy...(yeah it sounds that good)

James Farm is another great band fronted by Saxophonist Joshua Redman. Joshua Redman son of  Jazz Legend Dewy Redman should be no stranger to long time visitors of The New JDP as I have posted many shows featuring him.

I downloaded this recording from a website called Live Jazz Lounge. Live Jazz Lounge is one of my favorite places to download unreleased Jazz recordings. The recordings are usually soundboard quality and in MP4 vbr, although some in the archive are MP3. If you like Jazz do yourself a favor and check out this great resource!

This is an absolute must have Jazz Legends Dewey Redman and Von Freeman jamming with their sons Joshua Redman and Chico Freeman. All 4 are extraordinary tenor sax players. All 4 have a very distinct style of playing. All 4 had never shared the stage before. There is some fabulous performances here that should not be missed. The original up-loader made this audio a single file, I did not want to re-encode the show, so I left it as one file.

This Sunday Morning Jazz offering from The Joshua Redman Quartet sounds great. The only problem is it is much too short. I would love to hear a headliner length recording from this group. Joshua Redman's fantastic composition & arrangement skills probably came to him in his DNA. Joshua is the son of The Legendary Dewey Redman. Like his father Joshua plays a variety of instruments and has played as sideman to many Jazz band leaders including Pat Metheny, Chic Corea, Joe Lovano, & Brad Mehldau. The Detroit International Jazz Festival is among the largest free Jazz Festivals in the United States. I first attended the festival in 1981 when I was in high school. I was involved in the local music scene in our school, a few musician friends of and I road the bus downtown to see music that would just blow our minds. All of us were into Punk Rock & Heavy Metal having lost interest in the Progressive Rock & Arena Rock bands of the day. The performances that we saw that day re-opened our eyes to a type of musicianship that would influence our future paths in music. I have attended the festival several times since, as a matter of fact Rosebud and I plan on attending the festival this year. I downloaded this great show from an awesome site called The Live Jazz Lounge. A fantastic source for unreleased live Jazz shows all are posted in lossy formats some in MP3 some in MP4.
