Now here is a nice find that just popped up at The Trader's Den recently. Gamma was always a great live band. The music always had that little bit more of an edge most Hard Rock bands had live in the 1970s. Producers back then kind of neutered Hard Rock bands in the studio. Ronnie Montrose couldn't win when it came to critics and the masses. Everything he did was held up against the monstrous debut from Montrose, I mean Paper Money wasn't even good enough. That was essentially the same band doing the same thing but for most it wasn't good enough. For me those 2 albums are Proto-Metal Gold straight from the mine!
This recording shows it's age a little, but is still a very enjoying listen!

Gamma recorded live on tour to promote the Gamma 1 album. This recording is supposed to have come straight from the mixing desk. Ronnie Montrose actually sued the label that released it. Ronnie and Gamma released 3 albums before splitting in 1983. A reunion took place in 2000, both touring and releasing the Gamma 4 album before disbanding again. In 2009 it was confirmed by Ronnie Montrose that he had been battling prostate cancer for 2 years. He continued to tour while this battle was going on. Ronnie Montrose died from a self inflicted gun shot March 3, 2012, he was 64. It's presumed that the return of his cancer, along with deaths of loved ones caused Ronnie to slip into a deep depression that ended with his suicide.

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some of the track marks. No EQ, noise reduction was used. I then encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps because the DVD had lossy audio.

Fabulous recording of a Jazz Super Group consisting of members of Weather Report, Montrose, Huey Lewis & The News, & Mahavishnu Orchestra. With this talented line-up you can't go wrong! Highly recommended!

I actually turned down a chance to see this concert with some friends of mine (I couldn't afford the ticket price) so I was glad to get a copy of the broadcast. This is a purely instrumental set and is only a portion of the actual concert, it is however all that was broadcast.

All though called Unreleased Studio Rehearsal this is actually an edited version of the Record Plant 1974 radio appearance with a different running order. I bought this CD-r in a little used record store. The owner, when he gets a bootleg in, will make copies and sell them for $5 a piece, then sell the original. I've bought a few $5 boots from him. I included the cheap copy of the artwork that came with the CD-r as well as some art from BigO.
