Raven were leaders in the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Formed in New Castle, England in 1974 the band would wear athletic equipment such as hockey helmets, elbow and shoulder pads etc on stage, then smash into each other and their equipment. This would prompt Atlantic Records to later bill them as Athletic Rock. Raven's first tour of the states in 1983, had the fledgling Thrash Metal bands Anthrax and Megadeth as opening acts. Atlantic Records signed the band and released Stay Hard in 1985. The band took a lot of flack for the albums more commercial sound, Atlantic forced the band to change even more during their time on the label, much to the dismay of fans. Album sales never lived up to label expectations and Raven was dropped. The band still enjoys an independent label career and makes metal once again on their own terms.

Harpo's Concert Theater is the bar for Heavy Metal, Hard Rock in Detroit. It started life as the Harper Theater in 1939, part of The Wisper & Westman circuit. It became Harpo's Concert Theater in 1973 and started hosting live rock music. At one point in the 1970's the club was billed as Disco Inferno, a dark time in rock history. The lighted Disco floor is still in use while Heavy Metal bands play there.
