This happens to be in my opinion the best sounding version of this recording that I have heard. I have a few in my collection and I compared them this version won out.

When I was in High School showing up to school in a concert t-shirt the day after the show was a badge of honor. However I had to be a little different due to my well deserved Bad Boy image. So I went to Junior High wearing a Styx Grand Illusion t-shirt. I was stopped almost every other step "Wow, You went to Styx!!" I had by this time become quite good at sneaking out my bedroom window, over the fence, through the vacant lot to my friends waiting car. From there it was minutes to the highway and we were on our way. I would just tell my parents later that I had a friend by the shirt for me. Worked every time..

The notes from JEMS about this great Mike Millard recording are included in the download.

By now a lot of you who frequent The New JDP know who Mike Millard is and how good his audience recordings are. If it has the Mallard name on it you know a very enjoyable listening experience is inside! This Styx show is no exception to that rule. It sounds awesome! The instruments and vocals are clear and the audience noise is never in the way of the music. Styx fans grab this full length Grand Illusion Show for your collection.

justdave's notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to edit track marks, adjust the volume, and add a fade in/fade out at the beginning and end of the recording. No EQ or noise reduction was used. I encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps because the DVd had lossy audio. This was a two DVD set, the CD1, CD2 break was made where DVD 1 ended and DVD 2 started.

Recorded during the bands Paradise Theater Tour, this show sounds great! Everyone is in fine voice and the instrumentation is spot on. My only gripe would be a lack of earlier material but it's a small gripe. A lot of 1980's hits are here that were the soundtrack to my generations teenage years. You couldn't go to a school dance, roller rink, or arcade without hearing most of these songs. For me this was the last Styx album I bought, when Kilroy came out I was more than a little disappointed. I did see the tour which didn't go over real well in Detroit, during the theatrical parts the audience would constantly scream for the band to .."Shut up and Play Some F@#*ing Music!"

We lost John Panozzo at the age of 47 to gastrointestinal hemorrhaging, a complication from cirrhosis of the liver.

11 - Interview with Styx

Styx 1999:
Dennis DeYoung - keyboards, lead & backing vocals
James "JY" Young - lead & rhythm guitars, keyboards, backing vocals
Tommy Shaw - acoustic guitar, lead & rhythm guitar, lead & backing vocals
Todd Sucherman - drums
Glen Burtnik - bass, backing vocals

This is the last performance of Dennis DeYoung as a member of Styx. Dennis had already been replaced by Lawrence Gowan. Gowan had been an opening act for Styx at Montreal's Molson Centre and Quebec City's Colisée. Tommy Shaw was so impressed with Gowan that he asked him to fill in for Dennis DeYoung on the Return To Paradise Tour. Dennis was suffering from a viral infection that made his eyes sensitive to light. DeYoung asked the band to not tour until he was well but Shaw & Young decided to go forward with out DeYoung. During this tour Shaw & Young decided to permanently replace DeYoung with Gowan but didn't make a formal announcement until after this show. DeYoung however knew going into this performance. You could never tell by this performance, or during the interview, not one hint is given that this band was under reconstruction. The band seems to be getting along fine, I guess that's a testament to the showmanship that made this band the first in history to release 4 consecutive multi-platinum albums.

Note: the original uploader gives a date of June 6, 1999 this is the date I went with, however wikipedia gives the date of June 5, 1999 for this show.
