With all the politics and natural disasters in the news I didn't hear that Singer/Songwriter Un-Official Eagle J.D. Souther passed away until yesterday. I found out by surfing for bootlegs and the site had a post saying the same I'm saying. I just found out about it. All I have found is that he died September 17, 2024 at his home, he was 78.

It really has been the story for ages that the singer songwriter that influences others in a scene never attains the same heights as those he influences. Gary "US" Bonds, Del Shannon, Mitch Ryder and Frankie Miller for example never attained the heights of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Cougar Mellencamp, or Bob Seger for example who were influenced by them. I actually had this discussion recently with a friend and he said Bob Dylan influenced a lot of people in the 1960s and he's world famous (not in quotes because I'm not sure of the actual words it was a Stoner conversation). To which I replied Bob Dylan was influenced by Woody Guthrie or else he would have been a Little Richard style rocker. I read in one of the many biographies about him (I read only one book about him in the1980s) that he used to play the piano and jump around singing like Little Richard. Something that as a pot smoking teenager I couldn't imagine but think about it.

Back to J.D. Souther, look at the song writing credits of your favorite California Sound Country Rock artist's albums. Most likely J.D. Souther's name is on there. As a writer or co-writer. Linda Ronstadt, Chris Hillman, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, The Eagles, James Taylor all recorded songs written by or co-written with J.D. Roy Orbison had J.D. Souther do the vocal arraignments for his Black And White Night video concert (that one I read on Wikipedia)...Roy "Freaking' Orbison (wow)!! John David Souther was a big part in The California Sound's take over of the 1970's Before I end this I also want to point out that J.D. Souther was inducted into the Song Writer's Hall Of Fame.

Known Faults: None

Now the notes say no known faults but there are a few little cuts that didn't alter the listening experience at all. This is an awesome show and a little bit special as it starts with an acoustic set which most on this tour did not. The electric portion of the show starts with "Take It Easy" and includes "King Of Hollywood" with an extended guitar solo at the end. Other highlights are a cover of Poco's "Keep On Tryin'", "Those Shoes" and 4 Joe Walsh solo tracks. This Mike Millard Master recording should be in all Eagles fans collections!!

Another great Mike Millard recording for your listening pleasure. This time from my favorite member of The Eagles (sorry I was a Joe Walsh fan before I was an Eagles fan). My first time hearing Joe Walsh was when a girl brought the 45 single for "Rocky Mountain Way" to school. We were in elementary school and we could bring in records to play during class free time and for recess if we stayed inside. I remember I bought my own copy soon after. My first time hearing The Eagles was when I was still in elementary school and heard "New Kid In Town" on the radio during the bus ride home. I know Joe Walsh was in the band a short time compared to the rest of the band, my favorite of the Joe Walsh-less era is of course Glenn Frey, what a great songwriter!

This Millard recording is as great as all the rest. The audience is a little chatty but not too bad. The listening experience is not affected by audience so. enjoy!!!

This is for those who want something else other than our Hard & Heavy Hump Day offerings! How's the sound? It's WNEW Live At The Bottom Line...It's awesome of course!!!

For Eagles fans this may be a Great Addition to their Eagles collections. J.D. Souther, being one of Glenn Frey's best friends, was a big part of the Eagles Hit Machine. Souther was a constant writing companion of Frey's helping him write many songs in his career. "James Dean", included in this set, is a great example. If you haven't heard J.D. Souther's music but are a fan of The Eagles or The "California Sound" you will definitely enjoy this great Country Rock set.

The original uploader included some articles about the set with the file set which of course can be found in the art & info folder.

01 Jam 16:39

The Band:
Eric Clapton guitar
Peter Green (R.I.P.) guitar
Joe Walsh guitar
Jim Gorden drums
Donnie Scott percussion

So this is a jam featuring 3 of Classic Rocks Guitar Heroes. Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green and Joe Walsh, who was playing with The James Gang at this time. A supposed after show jam which is a 16 minute little dream for fans. Joe Walsh is said to be playing the bass for this one, probably a little nervous playing guitar with 2 of the biggest guitar players of the time.

Peter Green died July 25, 2020, he was 73.

Draftervoi's Original Upload Notes:
Captured Live! was a series of syndicated concerts produced for the stations of the RKO Radio Network and affiliated radio stations from 1982 through 1984.  An announcement Billboard Dec 12 1981 says the shows were to be 26 one hour specials featuring top rock performers in concert settings, with the series to begin in March 1982.

It appears that the 1982 shows were distributed on reel-to-reel tape.  In 1983, they switched to LP sets.  Stations received both a hosted version with prerecorded announcements, and an unhosted version with a script, allowing the local disc jockey to do the lead ins to each segment.  The unhosted version had "beds" of a live concert audience for the disc jockey to talk over, making it sound like he was at the show.  Most of these sets of both version (hosted and unhosted) have been broken up into two versions for resale on the collector's market.

The LPs had a Disc Code numbering system that combined the first letters of the show (“CL”) with the number of the show for that year (1, 2, 3…)  with the year (either 1983 or 1984). As an example, the first show of 1984 was CL 184, the second show was CL 284, etc.)

The RKO Radio Network ran into trouble when a television advertising billing scandal provoked the FCC to force RKO out of the broadcasting business.  In 1985, the RKO Radio Networks was purchased by United Stations Programming Network and the Captured Live! series came to an end.

This is a re-post of sorts. On October 29, 2015 I posted the Eagles portion of this bootleg. I did not have the Jackson Browne portion and wanted to post this great show to honor Glen Frey. I have since obtained the Jackson Browne portion and have a complete source. The links to the old post were broken so I figured if I was re-posting, I might as well post the whole thing. Both performances are fabulous must haves.

Here's a digitization I did back in 2013.......a Joe Walsh show, right from the radio discs.  Commercials are tracked, there's a scan of the cue sheet and disc label, and I've gone through it and declicked it one click at a time in Audacity.  Mr. Walsh let's his backup singer take a lead vocal on the opening number, a cover of The Impressions "People Get Ready."

I split the flac files into 2 downloads due to their size both zips can be opened separately.

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks and adjust the volume. No EQ or noise redction was used. I seperated the interviews from the songs. There are some small flaws in this recording. The first track "Stop" starts a little abruptly. The transition from "Stop" to "Walk Away" is slightly ruff. The volume would fluctuate I did my best to even it out some. All in all this is not a bad listen, and a nice example at what The James Gang sounded like in 1971.

I ripped the DVD audio with DVD Audio Extracter. I the used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks and reduce some very high spikes in volume. The DVD I used was sourced from a video tape, the is a small amount of tape flutter in spots, however this recording is a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

I do not know the names of Joe's backing musicians. He is using a line up with himself as the lone guitar, a bass player, two back up singers one male, one female, who both double on percussion, a drummer, and a 5 piece horn section.

Not one bit of Joe Walsh's set has been commercially released. This is his entire set.

There have been a few commercial releases from the 1983 US Festival.

Triumph, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and The English Beat have all been released on there own.
Steve Wozniak's company has released a 3 DVD set called The US Festival 83 Days 1-3.

Day one features The Clash, Men At Work, Stray Cats, Divinyls, & The English Beat.

Day Two features The Scorpions, Triumph & Judas Priest.

Day Three features U2, Stevie Nicks, Missing Persons, & Quarterflash.

There is also a single DVD compilation called The Us Festival Days 1-3 available. This one features a couple songs from INXS, Divinyls, The English Beat, Stray Cats, Men At Work, The Clash, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, Berlin, Quarterflash, U2, Missing Persons & Stevie Nicks.

A nice sounding recording from Glenn's solo tour. Glenn is noticeably drunk on this occasion but his performance is spot on. We lost Glenn Frey on January 18, 2016. Glenn was recovering from intestinal surgery in an induced coma, he contracted pneumonia during recovery and passed away.

This is a rather fitting tribute to the fallen Eagle, a very confident performance of his solo material. Only one Eagles song found it's way into the set, while other former Eagles peppered their solo performances with Eagles songs. This is my only solo Glenn Frey recording (I wish I had more) so I hope all his fans enjoy it.

Draftervoi's Original Notes::
1) This attributed to "Los Angeles" on the broadcast. Universal City is an unincorporated area entirely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles.

2) I do not know the date for the show, but Henley was on tour during the summer and fall of 1985.  I have seen this show attributed to November of 1985.  I found a ticket image on Ebay that clearly shows that he also played there in September.  The ticket is included here, but is not intended as a claim it represents the date of the show.

3) I included all commercials and promo spots.  They are clearly marked and tracked so you can exclude them from a CD-R burn.  The intention here was to reproduce the entire show as it exists on the discs.

4) The tracks were manually declicked one click at a time in Audacity.

5)
Westwood One had a problem with their disc labels. One disc has the number corrected by pen, and another has a typed sticker glued on to it.

6) The Westwood One "affidavit" was missing from the set (presumably sent in to document that it had been played on the air).  Hence the (Almost) Complete in the title.

justdave's notes:
The former Eagle stretches out on his own after the lawsuits. Don was the opening act for the Soundtrack Of The Summer Tour starring Styx & Foreigner. Both Styx & Don Felder's sets were recorded for broadcast. Both sets were to be released on DVD, but only the Styx set has been (at least I couldn't find it as a commercial release with a search). Since Don Felder's set was filled with Eagles covers, one wonders if the Eagles blocked the release. Well we all now have a nice soundboard recording of Don Felder doing "Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride)" and a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pride & Joy".
