Draftervoi's Notes:
This is sourced directly from the KBFH discs.  There is a streaming audio version available but it does not include "Middle Man."  This show is often attributed to April 5, 1981, but that is clearly the broadcast date of the KBFH show, as it is the date printed on the KBFH record label. It's likely that this is from November 26, 1980.  That show was simulcast via satellite with more songs.  However, the set list I've seen of the simulcast does not include "Lowdown."

In 2013 I digitized the Boz Scaggs / King Biscuit Flower Hour show that was broadcast on April 5, 1981. That's the broadcast date of the syndicated discs, the actual show is likely to have been recorded on November 26, 1980.

This is direct from the KBFH discs. I cleaned the discs with Titebond II wood glue and then went through it all on Audacity and declicked the show, one click at a time. I've tracked all the commercials and KBFH breaks so they can be left out if they're of no interest. There's one "star turn" where Dave Mason does a pretty heartwarming commercial for Miller Beer that may be of interest to Dave Mason completists. He really "sells" the commercial.

The sound quality is top-notch, the drums really snap, the two background vocalists are well-defined...all in all, it's worth checking out even if you already have the show archived.

One thing that always struck me about this show is that Boz explains that "Georgia" was about a friend locked up for a love affair with a 13-year-old.... nowadays we'd call that pedophilia, but he just sort of passes over it as if it was normal. Times change....

Flac files of wavs; unfortunately, there was no cue sheet included, so all I've got is the disc label as collateral.

The Motor City's Mitch Ryder came out of the streets of Hamtramck, where he sang backup for a local group called The Peps. He left the group due to racial tensions and started fronting his own group. In the early 1960's  he was fronting Billy Lee & The Rivieras when he attracted the attention of record producer Bob Crewe. Bob renamed the band Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels and started releasing the bands records. The band had a string of Top Ten hits including "Jenny Take a Ride", "Little Latin Lupe Lu", "Devil with a Blue Dress On", and "Sock It To Me-Baby". Mitch went solo in the mid 1960's but never really matched the commercial success of the Detroit Wheels era. He remained on independent labels during the late 1970's early 1980's until John Cougar Mellencamp produced the Never Kick A Sleeping Dog album for Mitch's major label return. This show comes from the tour to promote that album. So download this one to here Mitch rip through a set of his 60's & 70's classics along with new tracks, of note is the performance of "Bow Wow Wow" a song he had recorded with Detroit band Was(Not Was).

After the popularity of the last Gil Scott-Heron post I figured I would give you a little more. This is a great archive of 5 different broadcasts made in the course of Gil's career. If you've enjoyed the last 2 posts from Gil then you're going to love this one, too. Between Gil's socially conscious lyrics, the awesome playing by the band and the clear recording this is a collection that should not be missed.

I did some checking and they are not selling Kid Rock's appearance on Live From The Artist's Den so I figured I would share the audio from my bootleg DVD. It's a great performance, Kid Rock & Twisted Brown Trucker are set up in one of Elvis Presley's favorite rooms for setting the mood for making music in Graceland. An intimate audience is brought in for a show of a life time. How often are you this close to a multi-platinum artist as he belts out his hits. "What I Learned Out On The Road" is a composite performance that starts in a Graceland sitting room and melds into the live audience performance. Kid pays tribute to The King as he whips out a few verses of "Burning Love" during "Rock N Roll Jesus".
