For our next Women Who Rock post we have one of My Favorite Woman Vocalists Of All Time, Janis Joplin. Janis had broken away from Big Brother & The Holding Company to emerge a solo artist. During the recording sessions for her first solo album Janis was allegedly shooting upwards of $200 dollars of heroin a day. I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! was released to mixed reviews. All though Janis Joplin's vocals and shift in direction was praised by reviewers, The Kosmic Blues Band was not so well received. Critics thought the band to be sub-par and hindered Janis's performance. One reviewer recommended getting to a point were you could tune out the band and just listen to Janis sing. Fans however loved the album so much that it has gone Platinum. I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! is the only solo album to be released while Janis was alive. Janis was recording the album Pearl when she died of a heroin overdose, the album was unfinished yet released posthumously. Janis had finished all her vocal tracks but one, the ominously titled "Buried Alive In The Blues"

Keith Emerson died on March 10, 2016 from a single self inflicted gun shot to the head, he was 71.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer was the first Classic Rock concert that I took Rosebud to. We had attended many concerts while we dated, and after our marriage, but mostly Heavy Metal/Hard Rock concerts since it was a mutual love. When ELP reunited in the 1990's I saw it as an opportunity to introduce her to some classic Progressive Rock. I called her from work and told her that ELP would be at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan and could she try to get us some tickets. When I arrived home she told me that we would be sitting on the main floor 6th row center stage. What a set of seats, our friends Gypsy Dan and Prof Paul joined us for one of the best concerts we have ever attended (that's saying a lot, I seen Stevie Ray Vaughan jamming with Joe Cocker!). Keith Emerson pulled out the old Hammond Organ during an extended "Rondo" and proceeded to play it, beat it , kick it,  throw it around, and stab it with knives. Rosebud was blown away and a fan for life. We saw them a couple more times during the 1990's reunion period before the break up.

Our next Women Who Rock post comes from former Runaways guitarist and Hair Metal Queen Lita Ford.

Lita Ford started out as guitarist for The Runaways at the age of 16. The band consisted of  5 teenage girls scantily clad, playing a mix of Hard Rock, Punk & Glam. After the band broke up Lita went solo playing Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and became the Queen Of Hair Metal. Lita also was a heavy influence on the way that 80's Metal Heads both male and female would dress. The spandex pants, leather bras/vests, and Aqua Net overloaded hair became the uniform of the day. Lita Ford is still active in Heavy Metal today.

Randy Castillo passed away March 26, 2002 from complications of  Squamous cell Carcinoma a very common form of cancer, he was 51.

Jimi Jamison passed away August 31, 2014 from a heart attack caused by a hemorrhagic brain stroke from methamphetamine intoxication, he was 63.
