Don Williams' soothing baritone takes me back a long way. It is the music of my childhood. My Grandfather was a Jazz drummer very much in the Gene Krupa mode. So heavily influenced by Gene Krupa, my Grandfather never added a high hat to his drum kit even after Krupa did. So there was always a stereo at my Grandparents house and a nice collection of records. The Ink Spots, The Mills Brothers, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and Don Williams who my Grandmother loved. There also was Rock records there that my Grandparents listened to as well. I have memories of sitting on my Grandfather's lap while he taught me how to hold drumsticks. I was learning drums while in elementary school. My Grandparents met at a USO Club. My Grandfather was in the US Navy and regularly sat in with the bands at the USO Clubs whenever he could. My Grandmother said "He was a little drunk and kept looking for his weekend pass under my skirt." I know...I have mixed feelings about that quote of ecstatic laughter and the "Oh my God Grandma I don't need to hear that!" feeling as well...Enjoy the show

Another Before The Fame post. Rush was out promoting their sophomore album Fly By Night. The album was not a huge seller and signaled changes to the bands already growing fan base. First and foremost came Neil Peart who's drumming and lyrics brought the song writing to another level. "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" was a huge step in the direction of Progressive Rock. A longer form song arranged of many shorter parts hinted at what was to come. The playing was tighter, the album sonically better, the label was not impressed. Thankfully the label stuck with Rush and Rush made Music History. It all started in a van that broke down on the band on the way to the show. They didn't make it till the following night. That story is in the notes with this post...Enjoy the early Rush!

Draftervoi's Notes:
Includes: the four page cue sheet booklet, the commercial format page, the affidavit, and a scan of a disc label. This show has also been "gray-marketed" as "Cape Cod 1981" subtitled "The New England Broadcast." From the sound samples on Amazon UK, I'm sure it's also sourced from the A Night On The Road LPs.

JustDave's Notes:
It's been a while since I posted any Ted Nugent so here is a Pre-FM show that spawned quite a few bootlegs. Ted Nugent's career was slipping at this point. The Intencities In 10 Citys album didn't sell well. To many fans it seemed like a throw together to satisfy Ted's contract. It was definitely not Ted's best work by far. Charlie Huhn and Clff Davies both left the band afterwards. The reunion with Derek St. Holmes on the Nugent album was welcome by Ted's fans but short lived. The following album St. Holmes was replaced by Brian Howe, who was replaced on the next album by Dave Amato, who now plays guitar for REO Speedwagon. Ted Nugent never really recaptured the glory days that the Ted Nugent, Free For All, Cat Scratch Fever & Double Live Gonzo albums brought but keeps motoring along with a very loyal fan base. The man has been playing Rock since 1963 quite an accomplishment. He's going out on stage or while hunting. Either way he would be doing what he loves but he has proven he is here to stay till the very end.

It's been a little while since I posted any Rap. A music that I actually really love. Old School Rap, some of it anyway, has a heaviness to it. The deep bass, pounding beats, the rhythm of the vocal delivery, the lyrical subject matter all give it a Heaviness and I love Heavy Music of all types. Also having grown up in Detroit it really speaks to me. I grew up 3 houses down from an auto salvage yard. It's where I got my first job. My Dad took me to the salvage yard office at 14 and told the owner "..he's starting to look at girls so he's going to need his own money". He wasn't wrong lol! Anyway it's a struggle getting out of the hood. For me, like Eric B. & Rakim, the way was music. The music of Eric B. & Rakim, my band Psychosis, or Black Sabbath for that matter reflects where we come from. Enjoy the show!!

Bongripper is an instrumental Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal band from Chicago, Illinois, USA. As you can see they play some pretty long songs. The bands music is slow, reverberating, droning, pounding, and ambient. Yes it is meant to be listened to at very high volume, while very high. I love to listen to this band, and others like them (like Yob & Bongzilla), right in the stereo sweet spot. Right in the middle with the sub woofer on. Like Ambient Jazz, and Drone Music like Brian Eno, it can be really, for lack of the right term, transcendental. I know "it's Heavy Metal", but it can take your mind on a journey just like any other Psychedelic Music.

This flac set is made from the Master Tape of a recorder that I stumbled upon while looking through another blogs blog list. All of the shows he has on his site are his own recordings. They are also of Heavy Metal bands Death Metal, Black Metal, Doom, Sludge, Post-Metal etc. The sound quality is Excellent on this show I haven't downloaded any others yet if all of them sound this good I'll start collecting them all.

Hot off The Trader's Den, this should please both Rolling Stones and Mike Millard fans alike. The latest in the list of Mike Millard Masters being released by JEMS is a 1975 show from The Stones! I know I'm pleased as punch! The 1970s is my favorite era from The Rolling Stones, especially with Mick Taylor. I was a little disappointed when Mick Taylor left, but Ronnie Wood was just tailor made to be a Rolling Stone (and I just realized the pun maybe I should have written it as Taylor made lol). Just take a look at his look for example. Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart had the Keith Richards hair do. The Faces live show presentation was the same as The Stones...drunk at the pub with my mates Rockin' n' Rollin'. Also The Faces wrote great Rock & Roll songs in the same vein as The Rolling Stones. Ronnie Wood's guitar playing style just compliments the hell out of Keith Richard's guitar style. At the start of the tour Ronnie was listed as just touring with the band helping out his friends. By December it was decided Ronnie Wood was a Rolling Stone. I do believe it wasn't till the 1990s that he was made an actual partner in The Rolling Stones.

So the flac file set is rather large at 1 gig. Upload.io says a free user can download up to a 5 gig file so it's just one file...Enjoy The Rolling Stones!

Just like the Tool and Red Hot Chili Peppers posts This is a Before The Fame Post...U2 were just becoming known to the world when this show was recorded. I personally don't remember U2 on MTV until War was released and the "New Years Day" video came out. At any rate the band was not known that well. When I went to buy Boy at my local record store the guy behind the desk had no idea who I was talking about. Because of high energy kick ass performances like this one would soon have the world a buzz. U2 would not only conquer arenas they filled football stadiums around the world. To me it seemed like they went from Detroit's Harpo's Concert Theater to The Pontiac Silver Dome Football Arena over night. Deservedly so too!!!

Original Upload Comments:
* "The Ocean" was played twice (you can hear a very small snippet of this at the end of the second "11 0' Clock Tick Tock"), this was unfortunately left out of the broadcast
* DJ starts talking very quickly at the end of "Out of Control"

Included in this download is a soundboard recording of the bands soundcheck. It was hosted in MP3 224kbps on the drive and is included in it's own folder as a bonus to all.

This is a Before The Fame Post...This is actually one of the earliest Tool soundboards to surface. The Green Jellö Loft was a studio/practice place where the band Green Jellÿ aka Green Jellö rehearsed their stage shows. They and the band Tool also played shows there which were basically huge parties. That is where this recording comes from, one of those parties. The bands debut E.P. Opiate was released 1992  almost a full year after this show. Tool fans may notice some differences in the songs structures from the later recorded versions. Like I said it's a before the fame post so things were just really taking shape here.

This is a Before The Fame Post...The Red Hot Chili Peppers were on tour to promote their album Mothers Milk. This would be the album that broke the band to a much wider audience. The bands cover of the Stevie Wonder track "Higher Ground" would gain heavy rotation on MTV when they used to play music videos. The album hit it's top by making #52 on The Billboard 200, eventually going Platinum.

Now I know most people know The Chili Peppers, but some may not know the bands type of humor. If school boy locker room sex jokes offend you do not download this show. The song title "Special Secret Song Inside" is what the band had to rename a song on The Uplift Mofo Party Plan when the record label refused to release the album with the songs original title on the jacket. I only go into this because there was a lady who tried to download a show here when I was trying out Fikper as a service. They had some popups that were porn adverts and she said she was not comfortable downloading because of my porn fetish. I don't want to offend, just share good music. So look The Red Hot Chili Peppers can offend some people so....

This is show 1 of the BigO Jazz Archive that I kept (I'll be sharing more). I have quite a bit of their Jazz posts some of which I have shared before. So those of you who visited BigO frequently may have this one. I've included the notes from BigO's post below.

This show is a killer performance from a line-up you would expect nothing less from. Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian. Each one a Legend in his own right joining forces to blow a lot of minds in 1 hour. It doesn't get any better than this!

What BigO said about this post:

Thanks to TomP, ricola, Unclewolfi and goody for sharing the show at Dime.

+ + + + +

Because there was a problem with the audio in the original FM source, it was in mono which is what you’ll get in the first track here. Unclewolfi’s capture of the rest of the show is in brilliant and gorgeous stereo. There’s always a possibility of the station airing the complete show in stereo one day as they often do which will make this edition unnecessary, should it ever emerge.

I know we have a lot of Carla Bley fans among us so there is no reason to try to sell people on this show from 1978. Carla Bley wasn't just a talented keyboard player and song writer, she was an excellent arranger. Charlie Haden who's no slouch at all three himself had Carla Bley arrange his compositions for The Liberation Music Orchestra (a great band). Carla also worked with Jack Bruce when he decided on delving into Jazz. It was a sad day when the World Of Jazz lost Carla Bley in 2023. On October 17, 2023 she passed from brain cancer at age 87. This is for all you out there who still miss her like I do...

By the way I downloaded this from the blog The Luxor Dream which is hosted by Titus. Titus has a vast array of music on his site. He also did the fantastic remaster of this show and others on his site...check him out.
