Fractal Sun from Costa Rica is the second band confirmed at ProgStorm Festival 2026!

The second announcement for ProgStorm Festival 2026 comes with a strong dose of world building and a welcome spark of diversity in the lineup. From the steadily rising Latin American progmetal scene, Costa Rica’s Fractal Sun bring a rich sci fi universe that expands far beyond their music and adds a distinctive voice to this year’s edition.

Their debut album “Turmoil” opened the first chapter of their narrative back in 2020, centered around a scientist who hijacks the last spaceship capable of saving humanity before vanishing into the unknown. The story has grown with every release since, evolving across their latest singles where their mix of djent, symphonic elements, modern prog and an unmistakable cosmic atmosphere really shines.

With influences spanning Animals As Leaders, Plini, Haken, Tesseract and even touches of Nightwish, Fractal Sun’s approach fuses technical edge with cinematic storytelling. Their momentum has been rising fast, from opening a show with Obscura in 2023 to a slot on 70000 Tons of Metal in 2025.

The lineup features Hellen Quirós on vocals, Isabel Viquez and Johnny Víquez on guitars, Santiago Mejía on bass and the powerhouse Sunfyre on drums.

We’re thrilled to present Fractal Sun as part of ProgStorm Festival 2026 and to see them bring their universe to Montreal for their first ever Canadian performance.

I consider that to be truly Prog!
