This is my absolute favorite homemade pizza and is now one of my most requested dishes when my family and friends visit. All you need is a Cast Iron Skillet and a few simple ingredients to make this delicious and savory pizza!

Cast Iron Pizza

Before you get started, make sure you have your pizza sauce and cheese ready to go. I always make my Simple Tomato Sauce about 15 minutes before starting, it’s quick and easy.

Slice the cheese for easy tearing and keep it close by as well.

Fresh Mozzarella

Ok, now let’s get started on the pizza! Pre-heat oven to Broil, if your oven has Broil settings, choose High. On a lightly floured surface, place pizza dough and cut into two equal halves.

Begin heating Cast Iron Skillet on Medium-High heat (I use a 10 inch skillet). While that’s heating, roll out one half of the pizza dough to about 10 – 11 inches wide.  By now the skillet should be hot and you should be able to see steam coming off the top, if not let it continue to heat until steam appears. Once it’s ready, turn off the burner and carefully place the pizza dough into skillet, you should hear a slight sizzle.

Working quickly, add a 1/4 cup of the Simple Tomato Sauce, leaving room around the edges.

Now tear and add 4 ounces of the fresh mozzarella.

Carefully, using oven mitts (the skillet is extremely hot), place skillet in oven.

Finish cooking the pizza for about 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown. Then remove from oven and transfer to plate for serving.  Tear or chop fresh basil and place on top of hot pizza.

Repeat steps with second half of pizza dough or save dough for another day.

Enjoy!
