The album features 13 piano-based tracks by Jack Vanzet (aka Thrupence), written during Melbourne’s lockdowns. It explores themes of connection, family, love, and loss—serving as a personal outlet during a time of emotional and global uncertainty. Raw, reflective, and intentionally unpolished, the music is accompanied by visuals drawn from Vanzet’s personal and family history. More than an album, Empty Maps is a deeply autobiographical work—an attempt to find clarity when words fell short.

Empty Maps is an audio-visual project built around a 13-track piano record. At its core is a 180g vinyl—a keystone piece that acts as both a vessel and a storytelling device. The music explores themes of connection, isolation, and family lineage—using piano as a way to communicate when language fell short.

Each track serves as a chapter in a broader narrative, with the record tracing a personal transition from one version of self to another. This storytelling extends into the visual design: a cover composed of layered family artifacts, scanned documents, and personal fragments presented in chaotic form, contrasted by an insert that brings those same elements into quiet alignment.

Intentionally fragmented and unpolished, the artwork embraces mess and imperfection. It captures the raw, unfiltered emotion of that period—offering moments of lightness amidst introspection. Empty Maps became more than just music; it was a way to understand and connect when communication felt out of reach.
