While other specifications remain undisclosed, it is expected to be a flagship product. Can it stir consumer interest in India's electric motorcycle market?
One of India's leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers, Ola Electric, is poised to expand its lineup of EVs. The company has recently released a teaser of its first electric motorcycle, set to debut on India’s Independence Day, August 15th. Interestingly, the teaser indicates that this new motorcycle is not one of the four concept models the manufacturer unveiled last year.
Last year, the company showcased four concept EVs namely, the Diamondhead, along with the Cruiser, Adventure, and Roadster.
Details about the motorcycle are limited, but the teaser reveals an LED strip positioned above two LED lights, resembling a headlight setup with integrated turn indicators, as two L-shaped lights appear to be placed on either side of the headlight units. The teaser also shows tank shrouds and a handlebar positioned in an upright stance. More details about the design, dimensions, powertrain, and range remain under wraps. However, it is anticipated that this e-motorcycle will debut as the flagship product in Ola Electric’s EV lineup. The specifics of the motor and battery configurations that the company will employ in the motorcycle are yet to be revealed.
While the company has tasted success in the e-scooter business in India, the electric motorcycle segment as a whole hasn’t been able to draw consumers. As a result, there are a fairly low amount of e-bikes in India as compared to a sea of electric scooters being used in both business and personal use cases. Will this motorcycle change the scenario? Well, at a competitive price point and a range like its Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 scooter, it might. We’ll have to wait to find out.
