Actress Shruti Haasan, daughter of Kamal Haasan, recently shared her journey of going to great lengths to establish her own identity after following in her father’s footsteps in the industry. In a candid conversation, Shruti revealed there was a time in her life when she didn’t want to be known solely as "Kamal Haasan’s daughter."
In a chat with YouTuber Madan Gowri, Shruti admitted that, although she is “very proud” of her parents, veteran actress Sarika and Kamal Haasan, she felt burdened by the constant association with her father’s fame.

Growing up, Shruti often faced questions about Kamal Haasan, which made her feel overshadowed. She explained that people would refer to her as “Kamal’s daughter,” which led her to invent a different identity. 'I would feel like, I am Shruti, I want my own identity. If anyone asked me, I would say, ‘No, my father is Dr. Ramachandran’—it was our dentist’s name. ‘And I am Pooja Ramachandran,’ a name I made up,” she revealed.

The 'Salaar' actress acknowledged that being raised by two “stubborn” people like Kamal and Sarika strongly influenced both her and her sister. She moved to Mumbai after her parents separated, which gave her a chance to experience life outside Chennai. In Chennai, she said, it was nearly impossible to escape her father’s fame, especially with his posters everywhere. Today, however, Shruti has come to terms with her legacy, admitting, “I don’t even want to imagine Shruti without Kamal Haasan.”
On the work front, Shruti was last seen in Prashanth Neel’s 'Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire', alongside Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She is set to appear in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 'Coolie', starring Rajinikanth. Shruti will also join Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the sequel to 'Salaar', titled 'Salaar: Shouryaanga Parvam'.
