Why SIP investing for 20 years may not have a multiplier effect

Getting rich with systematic investment plans looks easy in theory. But a lot of good luck has to fall in place for this passive strategy to work

We have been loaded with the virtues of systematic investing via contemporary financial literature and industry experts. A cursory examination would indicate most of this associated literature is just about a decade old. The data, however, is quite compelling.
A modest investment of ₹10,000 in SIP (systematic investment plan) mode would make you ₹1 crore in 20 years and a whopping ₹7 crore in 35 years (compound annual growth rate or CAGR assumed at 12%). That’s getting close to a dollar millionaire. The thought of creating ₹7 crore from a mere ₹21 lakh of your principal investment is very tempting. What could go wrong with this?
