4.7K views · 1K reactions | Let’s make a pasta bowl! 🍝 In one of our final demos this term, @katachi_ceramics shared a step-by-step demo how to create the perfect bowl for your favourite pasta dishes! 1. Start with 1.3kg of clay and centre! When centring, aim for a flatter shape compared to how you’d typically prepare for a cylinder or mug. 2. Once centred, begin opening up your clay to form a wide, shallow bowl. Keep a ruler handy to measure as you go, ensuring you’re happy with the width. 3. The key challenge with bowls is creating a smooth, gentle curve inside. Begin by compressing the clay—Kate uses a sponge to shape an even base and establish that smooth interior curve. If you want a foot ring on your pasta bowl, remember to leave a little extra thickness at the base. 4. Once satisfied with the base, pull up the walls. Kate uses a sponge on the outside of the bowl to maintain the curve as she pulls. 5. Compress the rim, and using the natural roundness of a rubber kidney and sponge, further emphasise the curve. 6. Finally, add your finishing touches, remove any excess, wire, and leave your bowl to dry, ready for the next stages! Are you going to give this a try?
