Sept. 30 is Orange Shirt Day. It's also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day in honour of the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. Phyllis Webstad, the creator of Orange Shirt Day, curated this list of titles for youth to read.

In Manitoba, at least 338 children died at the province’s residential schools or within a year of leaving the schools, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission found. But the names of almost half aren't known.

Indigenous communities are renewing calls for the Roman Catholic Church to apologize for its role in residential schools that forcibly removed children from their homes.

The site on Pickard St. appears innocuous and historic photos of children lined up at the school even appear sweet and innocent, but the reality of this former school's history is more troubling.
