  • As GLP-1 medications become more widespread across the UK, their impact is reaching far beyond weight loss and diabetes management. New research from Drinkaware and KAM suggests they are actively reshaping our relationship with alcohol, especially in social settings. With approximately 5.5 million UK adults now using these medications, the hospitality and drinks sector can play an important role in supporting and responding to this shift by making moderation easier through innovation. For example, expanding alcohol-free and low-alcohol options, offering smaller serve sizes as standard, and increasing the availability of lower-strength products across categories. Read the full report, 'Drinking Differently', to explore how these medications are influencing spending patterns and social norms: https://lnkd.in/ewhJyVhX

  • After-work drinks can offer opportunities to socialise, celebrate achievements, and strengthen professional relationships. However, they can also bring situations where people feel encouraged to drink more than they intended. Planning ahead can help you stay in control. This could include setting a limit before you go, pacing your drinks, alternating with water or soft drinks, or choosing alcohol-free options. It can also be helpful to remind yourself of your reasons for cutting back. Whether you want to improve your sleep, feel more present the next day, or support your longer-term health, having a clear goal in mind can make decisions easier. If you would like support to monitor your drinking and set personalised goals, download the free MyDrinkaware app: https://lnkd.in/ebdfCd-e or head to our website drinkaware.co.uk.

  • How do people in the UK really feel about their drinking? The 2025 Drinkaware Monitor, our annual nationally representative survey of UK drinking habits, offers some interesting insights into how people view their own behaviour. While the majority of drinkers stay within the Chief Medical Officers’ low-risk drinking guidelines, perceptions of what counts as “normal” drinking can vary widely. Our research suggests that social environments and peer groups play a powerful role in shaping those perceptions. This means some people may assume their habits are typical, even when the broader picture looks different. Understanding these perceptions matters. When people have access to clear information about drinking patterns and health guidance, it can help them reflect on their own habits and make choices that feel right for them. • As the working week comes to an end, many of us look for ways to switch off and reset. For some, that transition is closely linked with alcohol often framed as a reward after a busy or demanding week. Over time, these habits can become automatic, rather than intentional. But switching off effectively is less about the activity itself and more about how well it supports rest and recovery. Simple changes such as planning drink-free days, building alternative routines, or being more mindful of habits can have a positive impact on sleep, energy, and overall wellbeing. At Drinkaware, we focus on helping people make small, realistic changes that support healthier patterns over time. What helps you switch off at the end of the week?

  • We’re currently seeking a new Chair of Trustees to lead Drinkaware into its next phase. As the UK’s leading alcohol charity, Drinkaware plays a key role in reducing alcohol harm through evidence-based research, public-facing campaigns, and partnerships across government, industry, and communities. If you’re interested in contributing to meaningful behaviour change at a national level, we’d love to hear from you. Find out more and apply via the link 👉  https://lnkd.in/enKuv8CQ

  • Drinking habits in the UK are evolving, shaped by changing lifestyles, social influences, and increased awareness of health. From the continued rise of low and no alcohol options, to more drinking taking place at home, the way people engage with alcohol is shifting. Social circles also play a key role, with individual choices often influenced by those around us. Emerging trends, including the impact of health-related behaviours and wider lifestyle changes, are also beginning to influence alcohol consumption patterns.
