New data shows the medical prioritisation act is working.     This year a record number of UK medical graduates and other prioritised applicants have entered specialty training, including a record number of GP trainees.    ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/eH8qr9U2 Text in images reads: New data shows the medical prioritisation act is working. Competition ratios for prioritised applicants have more than halved, from around 4:1 to 2:1. 96% of posts were filled by prioritised applicants this year. Fill rates have reached 100% across all specialties and geographies. Round 1 recruitment for 2027 is now open with over 1,000 new training posts available. This comes as part of a commitment to deliver up to 4,500 additional posts over three years.

  • A lifetime of transforming young lives ❤️  We’re incredibly proud that Mr Asif Hasan, who retired from Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital earlier this year, is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.  Over more than three decades, Asif performed more than 4,000 open-heart operations and played a leading role in establishing Newcastle as an internationally recognised centre for paediatric heart surgery and transplantation. He also trained generations of surgeons who are now working around the world and contributed his expertise to charity surgical camps overseas.  Among the thousands of young people whose lives he transformed is 17 year old Seb Hollingsworth, pictured with Asif below. Seb underwent lifesaving heart surgery at just four months old and further surgery aged 13, both under Asif’s care.  Seb’s mum Nadine said: “As parents, we trusted him completely. He has had a huge impact on our family and we will always be grateful for everything he has done.”  Congratulations, Asif, on a very special and thoroughly deserved recognition of an extraordinary career.  The Pride of Britain Awards will be shown on Thursday 22 October at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

The vaccine helps to protect you, your patients and your colleagues, especially when you’re caring for vulnerable patients, whether in hospital or in the community. Reach out to your employer to find out how to get your free flu jab this winter.

  • Audrey was there on day one of the NHS. Now aged 96, she’s celebrating 80 years of service in healthcare. 💙 After retiring from the NHS, Audrey began volunteering at the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group in 1995. Since then, she’s taken on almost every role the volunteer service offers. Thank you, Audrey, for eight decades of dedication to caring for others. 👏 If you'd like to volunteer to support the NHS like Audrey, you can find out about roles in your local area. https://lnkd.in/eBc6hnS8 🎥 BBC

  • ‘Working with children changes you. Their resilience is astonishing, their courage, and the trust they place in us is something I never take for granted’. Kirsty is a Paediatric Radiographer at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for operating X-Ray and imaging equipment to help diagnose conditions. She began in adult radiography, before moving to Alder Hey to work with children 4 years ago. As well as creating a safe and comfortable environment for children during their scans by talking them through the process and using ambient light and sounds, Kirsty is also involved in research, developing scanning protocols, and testing new processes to optimise image quality. ‘The range of research we support is remarkable. Knowing that the images we produce may contribute to future treatments is deeply rewarding.’ ‘The technology may be complex, but the purpose remains very human: helping children feel safe, supporting their care and using what we learn to make things better for those who come next.’ With more than 350 different careers available, discover your own role in the NHS, like Kirsty did.
