PaletteofRainbows on Instagram: "This was one of my fave projects ever! Sea turtles in the ocean! The background was first done in oil pastels and then we used liquid watercolors on top. Then, because the liquid watercolors were competing with the turtle, I toned it down with white tempera paint. This also created a really neat visual texture for the ocean. The turtles were done in oil pastels. Lots of blending and coloring. The students observed sea turtles and their shell patterns before drawing the turtles. The details were done in paint pens. I painted a layer of Mod Podge to seal the turtles. (In hindsight, I would have had the students do the Mod Podge before the paint pens because that would've created a smoother surface for the paint pens).
