We are excited to announce the eagerly Merzbow's seminal album 'Mercurated' , originally released on CD in 1996 by Alchemy Records. This milestone in the noise genre captures the essence of Masami Akita's innovative approach to sound, an exploration of the boundaries of auditory experience that continues to resonate with artists and listeners alike. The new edition features a remaster by James Plotkin, whose expertise breathes new life into the album, revealing the intricate layers hidden within Merzbow's amazing work.
The album opens with the first track, "Electricwatersheep," a hallmark of Merzbow’s chaotic yet meticulously crafted aesthetic. It showcases his mastery in noise electronics, blending electrifying metal performances with a diverse array of filters. Each section invites listeners to dive deeper into a sonic landscape where silence is shattered, creating an immersive auditory journey that is unpredictably captivating.
Next, we encounter “Semisolid Mass 1-3,” a brand-new bonus track exclusive to this release. This addition enriches the listener's experience, expanding the already rich sonic palette of the album. With its uniquely disorienting atmosphere, it epitomizes Merzbow's artistic vision, enveloping the audience in a world of sound that defies expectations.
The third track, "Tree of Kusukusu," transports listeners into a phantasmagoric soundscape crafted from bowed metals and the eerie tones of the Ems Synthi'a. This track highlights Merzbow's exceptional ability to fuse organic textures with electronic manipulation, creating an evocative tapestry of sound that challenges conventional musical boundaries.
The journey concludes with "Surfactant," presenting yet another quintessential Merzbow composition. Here, the interplay of metal and electronic noise converges, showcasing Akita's artistic finesse and relentless pursuit of exploring sound as a medium of both chaos and beauty. Each track on "Mercurated" stands on its own, offering a coherent yet varied listening experience that invites repeated contemplation and discovery.
Merzbow’s 'Mercurated stands as a celebration of avant-garde noise art that beckons both longtime fans and new listeners to engage with the relentless creativity of one of Japan's most influential sound artists.

One of my fav Merzbow releases, I feel like White Blues Part II is the perfect peak for this album and it goes straight into Deathmetal which is also amazing.

My favorite Merzbow album, it’s a full package of fascinating sensory experiences. The repeated use of fluid sound textures in the early tracks really tickles my brain. AwfullyFawfully
This album is easily one of Merzbow's most underrated releases. next to Merzbeat, I think this is probably my second favorite. Colorful, full of texture, noisy, fun, jazzy and unpredictable. Shared Systems 有限
