Vim on Various Platforms and Operating Systems

Vim and its GUI interfaces such as GVim or MacVim are very portable and run fine on Microsoft Windows, on Mac OS X, on Linux and other UNIX systems such as FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris and OpenSolaris, HP/UX and AIX, and on many others more exotic (and nowadays less common) platforms.

On UNIX/Linux/BSD Distributions
On Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, MEPIS and derivatives, type: sudo apt-get install vim-gnome vim
On Fedora, CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and similar distributions, type: sudo yum install vim-X11 vim-enhanced
On Mandriva Linux, Mageia Linux, and derivatives, type: sudo urpmi vim-X11 vim-enhanced
On Arch Linux, type sudo pacman -Syu gvim
