What is Wikimania?

Wikimania 2015 is the annual conference celebrating Wikipedia and its sister free knowledge projects with conferences, featured talks, meetups and a hackathon with attendees of 40 countries. Digital rights leaders and hundreds of volunteers editors will come together to learn about new projects and approaches and discuss issues. Other themes to be addressed at Wikimania 2015 include the state of free knowledge, the role of Wikipedia in education, privacy and digital rights, using technology to grow participation, and more. This year’s conference will also feature a special focus on efforts in Latin America and other countries including Brazil, Spain and Portugal to increase the quality and amount of knowledge on Wikipedia and the other projects.
The main event itself is held in Hilton Mexico City Reforma Hotel. All are welcome, whether you're an expert, enthusiast, beginner or just curious!

PRODUCTION OF KNOWLEDGE TRACK

Wikimania will be partnering with the Digital Humanities Network (RedHD) a regional group of researchers and practitioners, to present an international track of talks and panels by multidisciplinary experts that will cover such subjects as human knowledge, its production, and the technology in the digital world: where do we stand, in terms of philosophy, anthropology, sociology, and their related fields?

In this panel we want to show a panorama about the exercise of the rights and freedoms of internet on the region and the challenges to face: the right to access of information and freedom of expression versus the so-called "right to be forgotten" (privacy and data protection); national and public security versus surveillance and spying and net neutrality versus content discrimination.
