Albert King

Albert King Nelson (April 25, 1923 – December 21, 1992), known professionally as Albert King, was an American blues guitarist and singer, and a major influence in the world of blues guitar playing. One of the "Three Kings of the Blues Guitar" (along with B.B. King and Freddie King), he is perhaps best known for the 1967 single "Born Under a Bad Sign".

King stood taller than average, with sources reporting 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) or 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m), and weighed a hefty 250 pounds (110 kg) and was known as "The Velvet Bulldozer" due to his smooth singing and large size.

In May 2013, King was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Life and career

He was born on a cotton plantation in Indianola, Mississippi. During his childhood he would sing at a family gospel group at a church where his father played the guitar. One of 13 children, King grew up picking cotton on plantations near Forrest City, Arkansas, where the family moved when he was eight.

King was famed for his powerful string-bending style as well as for his soulful, smoky vocals. King often said he was born in Indianola and was a half-brother of B.B. King, although the scant surviving official documentation suggests otherwise on both counts. King carved his own indelible niche in the blues hierarchy by creating a deep, dramatic sound that was widely imitated by both blues and rock guitarists.

Albert King (basketball)

Albert King (born December 17, 1959) is a retired American professional basketball player. King played at Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn and is regarded as one of the nation's greatest high school players of all time. He was rated the top prep player in the nation over Magic Johnson and Gene Banks during his senior year. A 6'6" guard-forward from the University of Maryland, King was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the 1st round (10th overall) of the 1981 NBA Draft. King played in nine NBA seasons for four different teams.

College career

In the 19791980 college season, King was named the ACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated twice during the 1980 season. One of the highlights of his ACC career was a thundering dunk over Duke center Mike Gminski during a Maryland home game at Cole Field House. Duke was No. 1 in the nation at the time, and King went on to lead the Terps in scoring that night and help topple the Blue Devils in the process. His jersey #55 was retired by the Maryland basketball program. In 2002, King was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary men's basketball team as one of the fifty greatest players in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

Two kind of people I just can't stand
That's an evil-hearted woman and a lyin' man
    Don't you lie to me
No don't you lie to me
    Because it make me mad
I get evil as a man can be
You told me that you loved me a long time ago
The fellow that you got you don't want him no more
Don't you lie to me, ha ha
No don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad girl
I get evil as a man can be
    Whoo
You know you been thinking when you sat down on my knee
You were fooling that moonshine tryin' to jive poor me
    Don't you lie to me
No babe don't you lie to me
Because it make me mad girl
I get evil as a man can be
Now don't you lie to me, yeah
Babe don't lie to me, no
Aw don't you lie to me, girl
I said don't lie to me, no
    Because it make me mad
I get evil as a man can be
Whoo, come on, well all right
