John Sykes

John James Sykes (born 29 July 1959) is an English rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has played with Streetfighter, Tygers of Pan Tang, John Sloman's Badlands, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Blue Murder. Sykes co-wrote the majority of the songs on Whitesnake's 1987 self-titled album with David Coverdale. Sykes is also a successful solo artist.

Career

Tygers of Pan Tang and John Sloman's Badlands (1980–1982)

Sykes joined Tygers of Pan Tang in 1980, and played guitar on the albums Spellbound (1981) and Crazy Nights (1982), as well as participating on two tracks for their 1983 release, The Cage.

In 1982, John Sykes was recruited by former Uriah Heep frontman John Sloman, for his new band Badlands, alongside his future Whitesnake bandmate Neil Murray. This was to be short-lived however, as Badlands broke up shortly after formation. No music has ever been officially released, although bootlegs of rehearsals do exist. Sykes also auditioned, unsuccessfully, for Ozzy Osbourne's band following the death of Randy Rhoads. Sykes also auditioned for Ronnie James Dio's new band, Dio, to record on 1983's Holy Diver album but was unsuccessful, as Dio instead chose Sweet Savage guitarist, Vivian Campbell.

    Famous quotes by John Sykes:

"This is my eighth hurricane, but I've never understood the force of water until I saw this on Sunday. The storm surge was like Sherman going through Georgia."
"Phil left such an incredible legacy of music, there's hours of great stuff. We're gonna play all the hits and some classic album tracks. We got together to play, and it didn't sound too bad. In fact it sounded great and it was a lot of fun."
"We have been pregnant for seven years and have now given birth"
"Is it a coincidence that the repairs on this tire were made where the tire split apart? This is not a coincidence. The tire industry has been condemned here. . . . The tire was coming apart where the puncture repairs had been made."

    Please Don't Leave Me

    by: John Sykes

In the summer we'd be crazy
We'd fool around all the time
Oh how I loved that girl when she was mine
But now she'd left me for another guy
And it really brought me down
    For without that girl
    I was lost and found
Oh darling please don't hurt me this way
Oh darling please don't leave me
Oh darling please don't hurt me this way
Oh darling please don't leave me
Now I get messed up and I fool around
    But there's no fun anymore
    They say times must change
    But I'm not so sure
    Lost lovers of summer
As you go your separate way
    Remember memories you owe
Won't bring back those special days
Oh darling please don't hurt me this way
Oh darling please don't leave me
Oh darling please don't hurt me this way
