AFFILIATED SOCIETIES
CAA welcomes as affiliated societies various organizations and groups of art professionals whose goals are generally consonant with those of CAA and who are interested in building a strategic partnership with an eye toward mutual enrichment.
To be recognized by CAA as an affiliated society, a group must be national or international in scope and must provide evidence that:
- They are committed to the serious practice and advancement of the visual arts, art and design scholarship, and/or higher education.
- They possess a formal organizational structure (such as a Board of Directors), an identifiable membership or readership, and signs of ongoing activity such as a newsletter, periodical, exhibition record, or other documentation.
APPLICATION
Applications for affiliated society status will be screened by the CAA Executive Director who will request a meeting with applicants and relevant CAA staff members for further information and discussion. The Executive Director will then submit a recommendation for application approval to the Executive Committee of the CAA Board of Directors.
MEMBERSHIP
An annual membership category has been created for affiliates which must be in good standing in order to receive affiliate benefits. Please fill out the membership form. Dues are based on a variety of factors including size of membership or readership and will be discussed when meeting with the Executive Director and/or CAA staff.
Affiliated Society Benefits
CAA Online Directory of Affiliated Societies
CAA publishes an online Directory of Affiliated Societies that includes the society’s name, date of founding, size of membership, annual dues, name and address of president, secretary, or other primary contact, and a statement of twenty-five to fifty words on the society’s nature or purpose. Each year, affiliates will receive a reminder about the directory, at which time the above information, as well as a current list of individual affiliate members, should be submitted to info@collegeart.org with the subject line “Affiliated Society Online Directory.”
Newsletter Promotion
Affiliated Societies can submit news to be considered for inclusion in the CAA biweekly newsletter, which reaches thousands of subscribers. This includes society conference promotions, grants and awards opportunities, calls for papers, and exhibition announcements. Newsletter blurb submissions should be 150 words maximum and link back to the affiliate’s website and/or promotional pages. Inclusion in the CAA newsletter is subject to space and approval by the CAA Communications team.
CAA Programs
CAA welcomes each affiliated society to participate in the CAA Annual Conference and year-round programming. Affiliated societies can request one business meeting during the Annual Conference and can submit a proposal for a 90-minute session at the conference, subject to approval by the CAA Conference team. Proposals for Annual Conference sessions must be submitted during the call for proposals each spring. This gives the Annual Conference Committee an opportunity to review content for the conference and create a balanced program. In conference promotions and the online schedule, the session and business meeting will be identified with the name of the affiliated society.
Additional session proposals may be submitted separately by individual members of the society in the open call to be peer reviewed by the CAA Council of Readers and Annual Conference Committee. If accepted, these will not be labeled as affiliated society sessions.
Affiliated societies are responsible for requesting and covering costs related to audio visual equipment and services for their session and/or business meeting above and beyond the standard session or meeting setup.
All affiliated society session participants must have individual CAA memberships and be registered for the conference. Affiliated society members who wish to attend sessions, including their affiliated society session, must register for the conference. Attendance at the affiliated society business meeting does not require CAA membership or paid conference registration, but no-cost conference registration is required. Conference registration options will be listed on the conference website when online registration opens.
CAA Online Community
CAA Community, currently hosted on the Viva Engage platform, is an online forum for affiliated societies, committees, and other groups to post announcements, press releases, and general information, as well as to enhance communication among the groups and with CAA staff. All affiliated societies are encouraged to participate actively.
