A RARE MOLDED DINGYAO SHALLOW DISH
JIN DYNASTY, 12TH CENTURY
The body flaring widely from the foot ring and then angling upwards to the everted rim with unglazed edge, molded in the interior with a large and elegant phoenix in flight amidst leaves and flowers within a band of flower scroll conforming to an eight-lobed border, all below a band of peony scroll in the cavetto, covered all over, and on the base, with a glaze of ivory tone pooling to pale olive above the foot

Lot Essay

A slightly larger (23.1 cm.) Dingyao dish molded with the same design, dated to the Northern Song/Jin dynasties, is in the collection of the National Palace Museum, illustrated in Catalogue of the Special Exhibition of Ting Ware White Porcelain, Taipei, 1987, no. 90.
