I Am a Book. I Am a Portal to the Universe. Hardcover – 3 Sept. 2020
WINNER OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY YOUNG PEOPLE'S BOOK PRIZE 2021
A FINANCIAL TIMES BOOK OF THE YEAR 2020
Hello. I am a book. But I'm also a portal to the universe.
I have 112 pages, measuring 20cm high and wide. I weigh 450g. And I have the power to show you the wonders of the world.
Lift me up to the sky, rest me on your lap, drop me from a height, wear me as a hat. Together, through data, we'll uncover the stories hidden in the everyday. How long is an anteater's tongue? How tiny is the DNA in your cells? How fast is gold mined? How loud is the sun? And how many stars have been born and exploded in the time you've taken to read this sentence?
Hold me in your hands and let me show you what I'm made of - and what waits for you in the corners of our awe-inspiring universe.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 May 2023My granddaughter, are 10, borrowed this book from the library, and within a few minutes of reading it, we both decided that she should have a copy to keep for always. Ordered it from Amazon, at less than half the cover price, and I believe she has looked at it almost every day since. She even took it to share with a friend on a visit last week.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 December 2022I am amazed this book won a prize. Were any children consulted in the decision. This book is so disappointing - just a series of disjointed "factoids". Poorly written and frustrating +++. Given as a present to a 7 year old boy who was as disappointed as I was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and it does it in fun way.
Love how the book is the one doing the talking and teaching. It makes it a fun way to learn. Bought it for my great nieces and nephews. Always looking for good books for them. My requirements for books are simple… must be presented in a fun way and impart some sort of lesson. Should increase knowledge and/or guide the reader on life lessons.. how to be a kinder more accepting person. Great book, I’ve recommended to my friends who ordered it for their young ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!
I love this book! I use it at university to give students creative approaches to numbers and data. The book makes great, humorous comparisons to put orders of magnitude into perspective! I have ordered the book a second time for my partner, who is also very enthusiastic :)

1.0 out of 5 stars A good reed for a dentist or a doctor waiting room!
If you are interested in data visualization and insights for carefully planned and beautifully executed data visualizations, this is NOT your book. The volume will fit great in a dentist or a doctor waiting room, though. It has little positive texts and lots of colors!
