Jorie and the Magic Stones Kindle Edition

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

When Marjorie went to live with her frosty maiden aunt, she couldn’t imagine the adventures she would have with dragons — good and bad — and all the strange creatures that live in a mysterious land beneath the Tarn. The spunky 9-year-old redhead forges an unlikely friendship with an insecure young boy named Rufus who lives with his crusty grandfather next door. When Jorie — for that is what she prefers to be called — finds a dusty ancient book about dragons, she learns four strange words that will send the two of them into a mysterious land beneath the Tarn, riddled with enchantment and danger. Hungry for adventure, the children take the plunge, quite literally, and find themselves in the magic land of Cabrynthius.

Upon meeting the good dragon, the Great Grootmonya, Jorie and Rufus are given a quest to find the three Stones of Maalog — stones of enormous power — and return them to their rightful place in Cabrynthius. Their mission is neither easy nor safe, and is peppered with perils in the form of the evil black half-dragon who rules the shadowy side of the land. They have to deal with a wicked and greedy professor, the tragic daughter of the bad dragon, caves of fire, rocky mountainous climbs, and a deadly poisonous butterfly.

Jorie must rely on her wits and courage to win the day? Can she do this? Can she find all three Stones? Can she save Rufus when disaster befalls him? Can she emerge victorious? She and Rufus have some hair-raising challenges, in which they learn valuable lessons about loyalty, bravery, and friendship.

About the Author

A.H. Richardson is a treasured storyteller, whose unlimited imagination conjures up challenging and unforgettable characters, both good and evil, that dare children everywhere to delve into their own imaginations and learn to rely on courage and bravery to win the day. Born in England (yes, there are dragons there too), the author has always loved tales of flying and mythical magical creatures. She once tried to pin wings on her pony, quite sure that he could then fly! She is the daughter of the famous composer, Clive Richardson, who always encouraged her to write, even as a small child. She paints and sculpts, plays guitar, is a linguist, acted in films and on stage, and has trained dressage competitors. She is the proud mother of three grown sons and grandmother to three active, loving grandchildren. At present, she keeps a horse named Amaretto and writes her fabulous fantasies from her adopted home in Tennessee near the picturesque Smoky Mountains. It is there that she writes happily about the indomitable Jorie and her adventures.

Jorie and the Magic Stones is a fantasy novel for young readers.
Majorie Beatrice Weaver (Jorie) is the heroine in this book and readers will adore her. She is an adventurous and imaginative 9 year old with ‘hair of fire’. When she comes to stay with her aunt the adventure begins. She meets Rufus who lives nearby with his grandfather. Together they set off on an quest to bring the three magic stones together in a battle of good versus evil. Throughout the journey they meet some characters who each help in their own little way. Rufus bonds with the baby dragon who is like a puppy. He was adorable.

I was pleased with how Jorie and Rufus develop throughout the book. There are several characters in the book and I found them easy to keep up with. Jorie is an endearing character and role model for girls. She tried very hard to be obedient. The only issue I saw was her lying to her aunt and others which may disappoint some parents.

I purchased three of Ms. Richardson's, "Jorie and the Magic Stones". My daughter could not put the book down even for her favorite show on TV. This 65 year old picked up the book and began to read. I believe this book is for the young and young at heart since I enjoyed it also. The storyline was right on and kept my attention throughout the entire book. My daughter and niece wanted to know if Ms. Richardson will write sequels with Jorie and Rufus? A charming story and wonderful illustrations. Another great and wonderful author.

I just finished reading Jorie and the Magic Stones on my Kindle and I absolutely loved it! May I mention I am 75 years old and the book held me in its spell the whole time I was reading it...I hated for it to end! The characters are delightful and so real they jump off the pages as you meet and go along with them through their adventures. Each well-described character has an important place, from the main ones, Jorie, Rufus, and The Great Grootmonya, to the minor ones like Mr. Scrinch and Snowka. I think children of any age will fall in love with this book and I hope the author plans many more to follow!

This is a delightful book for adults and children. I bought it for my grandson's birthday intending for his mother to read to him before bed. But, after "checking out" the first chapter, I was hooked. I could not put it down. The characters are courageous and sweet without too much bravado. Values such as kindness, honesty, and standing by your friends are promoted without being preachy. I ended the book hoping for a sequel as I wanted to spend more time with Jorie and her friends. I have recommended this book to families with children and without. I'll have to buy another copy for my grandson as I'm keeping mine.

This book is a delightful treat to be savored and enjoyed by all who can enter the realm of imagination and magic where the seemingly impossible becomes reality.
I could not but continue reading the development and unfolding of this creative and magical story with its strong and unusual characters and its very descriptive writing.
This beautifully written book of adventure and mysterious powers, with its mostly delightful inhabitants and where good eventually triumphs over evil, will enchant the reader as it did me.

I absolutely love this story! It just carried me away and I couldn't put the book down!! I loved all the different characters, there were so many. The author did a wonderful job describing all of them and my imagination kept on going! The story was full of warmth and caring, despite many difficult moments. I can't wait to give the book to my Grandchildren! Hope there is another one in the works!!

This is a lovely world where magic and adventure come to life, letting enchanting dreams unfold in the boundless realm of imagination.

Jorie is off to live with her Aunt, a woman she's never met before and knows little about. When Jorie discovers that the Manor where she is to live once belonged to a powerful wizard, her curiosity is sparked. Together with her new friend, Rufus, she embarks on an amazing journey.

Lovely. This word describes the tale well. Jorie is a wonderful nine-year-old girl. She's polite, loves to show how smart she is, levels headed, curious, extremely imaginative and ready to head off into an adventure. She's simply so pure, kind and playful that it's impossible not to like her from the start. Rufus, her ever true friend, has a tad bit more rascal in him, something which makes him a perfect match for Jorie. And even the side characters each come to life with different personalities, oddities, and enjoyable accents. It's hard not to like every single one.

The world building is spectacular. There's never any long, drawn out descriptions with only enough given to make everything come to life. It's easy to get lost in the dragons, magic and other fantastical elements. The author does a great job of keeping a childlike fantasy about it, letting the magic do its thing and let the imagination flow.

There's adventure and tension as the kids go up against tremendous obstacles and dangers. Still, everything stays fitting for the age group.

Summed up, this is a story of magic and dragons young fans of fantasy aren't going to want to miss. The writing is perfect for the age group, allowing the reader to get lost in the world. The characters are easy to sympathize with and are sure to inspire the imagination long after the last page is read.

I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed so much that I wanted to leave my thoughts.
