I have several (much more expensive) weathering steel birds around my yard. I was looking for a Cardinal to add to the bunch and glad I bought this one.
For 1/3 of the price of the other birds in my yard, this one Is just as well made - the steel is the same thickness, also made from Corten (weathering) steel, and installed just as easily. The details on this Cardinal are incredible.
I installed it out near my raspberry garden Saturday morning right before it started raining, I went out this afternoon to check to see if it had started rusting and it has. It will take some time for it to be fully rusted like the rest of my birds, but I kind of like watching them progress from unrusted, to a little rusted, to fully rusted, to developing the final dark patina.
I wish I had found these before, I could have saved a lot of money!

Birds are always looking for new perches around here so I imagine eventually I will see, hopefully a cardinal perched for some shade under the oak tree.Although it claims no hammer needed I did us a small hammer to tap it into the tree. The spiked end is very pointed and sharp so be careful. It is very lightweight but also very sturdy as it a solid one-piece bird. There are many cardinals around here nesting and feeding in our backyard, so I hope to see one resting here one day.
