Great for single sided drives, bit of a mess for double-sided drives - great price for 2 heatsinks

Great for single sided drives, bit of a mess for double-sided drives - great price for 2 heatsinks
It's a pack of 2 M.2 heatsinks for $11 - that being said, they aren't without their issues. If you are using these with double-sided M.2 drives, like 2 of mine are, you will have to have thinner thermal pads for the top of the drive between the heatsink & the drive, if you try to use the ones that come with it, the top part will not go down enough to be able to screw it back together. At this point I've used these on 5 different drives of various makes and thicknesses, it works best on single-sided drives like the Samsung 990 Pro lineup - I have one of those in one right now, and it idles in the low 30s on the drive temps with the controller temp (Temperature 3) ranging from 35-40C depending on how much the drive is being used while 'idle' - should be noted that's my Windows Drive, so it's never totally idle.I bought these to replace the heatsink on the bottom 2 M.2 drives on my Asus X870E-E Strix, because it was just a plain plate 'heatspreader', not really a heatsink, and they definitely do a better job than that plate did (both because it spreads heat from one drive to another, and because it wasn't grooved or anything to help dissipate the heat in any meaningful way). The thicker the drive you're putting in, the more cantankerous the install is. This is because the DRAM chips that are the actual storage on the M.2 drives are ALWAYS thicker than the Controller, and the Controller on the drive is what actually runs the hottest, and needs to be kept cool the most - with these being flat-base heatsinks, they cannot make good contact with both the storage chips and the controller at the same time, unless you're using thicker thermal pads, which then makes it an issue as to whether or not you can screw them back together as it's intended to be used or not.If you're buying these for single sided drives, just make sure you use the thicker of the 2 thermal pads for each heatsink on the TOP (as the instructions say to do) and it should work just fine, try to keep the top part level and don't push down too much on the controller-side (as that will make it have bad contact with 1 of the 2 storage chips). Bit of a pain in the butt, but they do the job just fine, especially considering the price.Overall, because of the compatibility issues & one other issue I had (where for some reason the TeamForce 2TB drive I have, which is double sided, literally refused to work when it was installed in these), I have to give these 4 stars instead of 5. If you're buying them for single-sided drives, you shouldn't have any issues & they'll work great.

I just built a new PC workstation, and while I was putting it all together I used these heatsinks for two of my NVMe M.2 drives. And... I was VERY PLEASANTLY SUPRISED by how nice of a kit this is and how well thought-out it is and all that for so little money. Nice job folks! This kit includes a little screwdriver which also has a magnetized tip that makes it much easier to work with the tiny screws, and speaking of the screws it not only includes all the screws you'll need to put the thing together but it also includes two extra screws (one for each heatsink unit) that you can use to latch down the end of the M.2 card to your motherboard because yeah you probably don't have one of those M.2 screws handy do you? Well no worries! And this includes four thermal pads (one for top and one for bottom of each of the two drive kits) which are of different thickness, so read the manual to make sure you use the right thickness thermal pad on the correct side of your M.2 drive - it's easy to visually tell them apart as one size is visually thicker. It also includes a legible and simple manual which was great as other wise I wouldn't have known which thermal pad to apply to the front and which the back. Finally it includes wipes (wet and dry) to clean off your drive if you need it. Such a well thought-out little product. What a value! And it also looks great and WORKS great too - my drive temps have stayed nice and cool.

For a first-time setup for someone who's never installed a heatsink, it was fairly doable. I installed it on a WD Black SN850x for my PS5 but with a couple of tries was able to get it fitted and installed. The thermal pad felt a bit loose when installing it but after using the provided screws, it fit snugly to the heatsink. Had no heating issues for the past year I've had it installed.

Low profile and comes with four thermal pads and two heatsinks. Each comes paired with a bottom plate to take heat away from the top and bottom sections of the NVMe. Both heatsink and plate are securely held by 4 small screws. When secured to the MB, there’s enough clearance in between. Perfect use case for me. The fact that it comes with two sets is a bonus and of great value. Highly recommended!

Compared to Thermalright simple one (looks nice) which not lower the temp at all.
Wow this one lowered temp more than 10c immediately.
    This is amazing heatsink.
Don't buy big or pretty heatsink if your objective is lower the temp.

This is a narrow form factor so it is limited to narrow form factors. As such, it does not fit older models that predate M.2 SSD units, but I find these great for the lower cost M.2 that I am using in many of my refurbished projects.

This heat sink kit does not work very well for the Samsung 980 Pro SSD. The reason for the poor heat reduction of the 980 Pro SSD is that the chips on the drive are different thickness or heights and the thermal pad and heat sink does not touch all of the chips.

This can easily be corrected to make these heat sinks work excellently!

    First some test information:
I have 2 980 Pro 1TB drives in my cool running, perfectly quiet Ryzen 7 Asus TUF 570
    system.
Using the Magician software,Standard Optimization Setting, and monitoring the drive temps with CPUID HWMonitor software.

Stock 980 Pro SSD, No Heat sinks, Run a 6 times test, drives reached 150°F +

Stock unmodified Heat sinks, Run a 6 times test, drives reached 135°F
Stock Unmodified Heat sinks with system just being inactive 115° to 117° F

Modified cut 2 piece Heat sinks, Run a 6 times test, drives reached 120°F max.
Modified cut 2 piece Heat sinks, with system just being inactive 102°F
With average use of my computer, I never see it go more than 107°F

When the drives reached 150°F the report read/write test speeds dropped below 5000.
Now with the drives running cool my tested read/write speeds are 7022 and 5169.

On with the Modification of the Heat sinks:

First Item. The taped screw holes in the aluminum heat sink are very tight.
Use a screw with the supplied little screw driver to screw in one of the screws.
When the screw becomes tight back the screw out half turn or so and screw it back in
until it becomes snug again. Back it out and repeat the process until the screw will
go all the way into the heat sink. Do this for all 4 screw holes. This makes final assembly
with the screws go much easier!

Now you can follow the description below with the pictures.

EDIT: I uploaded the pictures in the proper sequence, but they are not being displayed in the proper order.

1.First picture is about screwing the screws into the heat sink to loosen the holes.
2.This picture shows the different height of the chips.
3.This pictures shows the gaps between the heat sink and the chips.
    4. Cut the heat sink aluminum in half. Cut 2 pieces of thermal pad.
5.Cut the bottom piece with cutters on both sides.
    6. Bend cut piece several times to snap off piece. Smooth with pliers if needed.
7.Put everything together with the thermal pads in place.
    8.Enjoy a cool running 980 Pro SSD !
