The "Hercules" sculpture depicts Hercules wearing the famous Nemean Lion headdress. Hercules first labor, as detailed in Apollodorus’ Bibliotheca, was to slay the Nemean Lion. The skin of the Nemean Lion was impenetrable and so Hercules had to use his immense strength to subdue the lion. Hercules used the head of the lion as a heroic headdress and the skin as an armor; it being impervious to the elements and weapons.

In the creation of “Hercules” the Master Sculptor set out to capture the spirit of the mighty warrior. The Nemean Lion headdress and Hercules' powerful physique are central to the composition of this heroic sculpture. A true masterpiece and art treasure!
