Al Quoz

Al Quoz is a 27.1 sq. km. rectangular stretch of land located between Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) and Al Khail Road (E44) in Dubai. It is divided into residential and commercial sectors. The residential side is mostly concentrated in the northeast region. These include Al Quoz 1, Al Quoz 2 and Al Quoz 4 . Al Quoz 3 is mainly industrial and offers office spaces and warehouses.

The commercial sector is known as the Al Quoz Industrial Area, which forms the southern part of the community. Al Quoz Industrial Area 1, Al Quoz Industrial Area 2, Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 and Al Quoz Industrial Area 4 are being developed by Dubai Municipality. The area is one of the oldest manufacturing hubs in Dubai housing factories and auto shops.

The residential side of the Al Quoz area is home to mainly Emirati families and expatriates. The commercial district features factories, car showrooms and warehouses.

Targeted creative fields encompass writing, publishing, audio-visual media, artistic and cultural industries, video gaming, software, and commercial design. This initiative aligns with the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, aiming to elevate Dubai as a global innovation hub by 2025, attracting creators, entrepreneurs, investors, and investments in creative sectors.

Metro Station near Al Quoz is the Onpassive Metro Station. It is on the Red Line of Dubai Metro and at a 10-minute drive.

Madinat Jumeirah 1 & 2 bus stops and Burj Al Arab Hotel 1 & 2 bus stops are the nearest options to take a bus. These are 17 to 19-minute drive by car.

There are plenty of small marts throughout the community. However, most families prefer to buy groceries in bulk and for that, there are plenty of supermarkets in Al Quoz. For instance, there is Jubily Supermarket, Sky Star Grocery and Abdallah Ketait Grocery in Al Quoz 4.

Other supermarkets in the neighbourhood include Sultan Al Madina Super Market, Najmath Al Madina Supermarket, Azhr Al Madina Hypermarket and Sahat Al Madina Supermarket.

Moreover, just 7 minutes away is the West Zone Supermarket that is popular amongst residents for its fresh meat and organic produce.

Muslim residents will not need to leave the community for their daily prayers as there are several mosques in Al Quoz.

There are a few churches in Al Quoz and the surrounding area. These include The Gatekeepers Weekday Warehouse, Emirates Baptist Church and Fellowship: A Christian Church in Dubai. These churches are accessible at an 8 to 17-minute drive by car.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church located on Oud Mehta Road is categorised among the best churches in Dubai. To get there, take the Al Khail Road (E44) freeway going northbound and it will take you approximately 15 minutes to get there.

The closest gurdwara temples are Automech Gurudwara and Gurudwara Al Aweer. Both are located in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 2 at a 17 to 20-minute drive by car. Guru Nanak Darbar, just 22-minutes away in the vicinity of Jebel Ali.

The closest Hindu temple, Shiva Temple will require one to drive for 15-minutes towards the Za’abeel community.

There are several reputable schools in Al Quoz to choose from. The most centrally located school is Clarion School. This school follows the US common core curriculum that is based on progressive learning. Students learn by actively participating in activities that include playing, personal experiences and social interactions.

The overall objective of Safa British School in Al Quoz is not to make education a task that must be tolerated but to make learning challenging while being fun at the same time. Other schools in the neighbourhood are GEMS Our Own Indian School and Oaktree Primary School.

Younger children will have to head to the nurseries in Al Barsha 2, this includes Dewdrop Nursery, Cherry Town Nursery and Seashells Nursery.

Jumeira University is located at Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, Al Quoz 4, United Arab Emirates. Other higher education options will be found in Dubai Knowledge Park, 16 to 19 minutes away. Universities here include Heriot-Watt University, Murdoch University Dubai, Middlesex University Dubai, University of Wollongong Dubai and more.

There are several clinics in Al Quoz that offers the best health care facilities to the patients. These include Aster Clinic, Al Quoz, Medilife Polyclinic LLC, Toronto Medical Center, Al Quoz City Star Polyclinic, Syed Sadiq Clinic, Noor Al Shefa Clinic and Access Clinic.

Another healthcare facility just a little further away is the iCare Clinic which is located on Al Wahda Street, right across Sheikh Zayed Road. Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery is located on Sheikh Zayed Road close to Al Serkal Avenue, one can get to this hospital within a 10-minute drive. Most residents visit this hospital for its superior orthopaedic treatment.

Al Quoz is located between some vibrant communities. The main roads that connect this community with others are Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. To its east is the district of Business Bay, while to its west is the district of Al Barsha and Al Manara. To its north, across Sheikh Zayed Road is the community of Umm Suqeim 1.

It is bounded by the Al Wasl community to the north and by Al Safa, Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara to the west, creating a long rectangle between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Although the community is a relatively quiet district within Dubai, one doesn’t have to drive for several hours to find a decent place to shop and dine.

The largest mall in Al Quoz is situated in the subcommunity of Al Quoz 1. This mall is called the Oasis Centre. It is a complete shopping, dining and entertainment venue. Apart from having several retail stores and restaurants, it also has a theme park which is called Fun City.

The area is in proximity to other larger malls such as Mall of the Emirates which is situated in the nearby community of Al Barsha. The mall is home to hundreds of shopping outlets, luxury stores and dining establishments. There is Ski Dubai – an indoor ski slope, Magic Planet – an arcade and amusement park and VOX Cinemas, which features a laser IMAX cinema.

There are approximately 200 cafeteria-style eateries and upscale restaurants in Al Quoz. The cafeterias in the community mainly offer Indian, Pakistani and Arabian cuisines. A few favourite casual restaurants in the locality are Sabir Afghan Restaurant, Royal Darbar Restaurant, Madras Kitchen Restaurant – Al Khail Gate, Towlat Al Hanna Restaurant, Chennai Darbar, Raju Omlet and Shehar-e-Karachi.

The more upscale restaurants include Nizar Restaurant and Cafe, Tom & Serg, Lime Tree Restaurant and Soho Cafe.

Moving on, the nightlife around the neighbourhood is also quite dynamic. Nearby, you can find The Red Lion at Metropolitan Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, just 11 minutes away.

Residents will have to drive a short distance to visit beaches near Al Quoz. The nearest option for them is Kite Beach which is only 12-minutes away via car. Kite Beach not only allows you to enjoy the sun and sand but there are several eateries on the premises as well. For instance, some restaurants found on Kite Beach are 25/55 Burgers, La Vedette Café, Taste of Brazil and Vicki da Dhaba. The beach also has play areas that have swings, slides, monkey bars and a jungle-gym.

The neighbourhood is home to Al Serkal Avenue which is considered a hub of art and design in the region. It is famed for Cinema Akil which features foreign and locally made films. A historical building you should consider visiting is the Majlis Ghorfat Um-Al Sheif. This building was once a vacation home to the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum who had it built in the year 1955.

Dubai’s First Experiential Play Museum in Al Quoz 1 is a children’s learning centre. It features interactive exhibits, climbing nets, water cannons and a cafe.

Al Quoz has its park called Al Quoz Park 3. This park in Al Quoz is quite small and you won’t find much greenery or grass in this park but you will find a volleyball court and lots of sand. Accordingly, if you are looking to enjoy your day in a greener space then you’ll certainly enjoy visiting the Al Quoz Pond Park that is full of green spaces overlooking an artificial pond. This park is also considerably larger than the latter. Also, it attracts a variety of birds and there’s plenty of grass for kids to run around in.

Those looking to keep fit can find plenty of gyms in Al Quoz. These include Power Gym Al Quoz, Al Maqta Gym, 24 Fitness Dubai, GymNation Al Quoz, York Life Fitness Gym and Smart Life Fitness Gym among others.

For personal grooming, there are several beauty salons in Al Quoz. These include Oro Rosa Ladies Beauty Salon, Alsayah Gents Salon, Golden Star Gents Salon, Top To Toe Beauty Center – Oasis Village and Better Gents Salon.

Although the Al Quoz community isn’t known for holding any significant community events, not too far away near Al Khail Road has Al Khail Gate which hosts a monthly market on the first Friday of the month. This community event has a carnival-like vibe where children can participate in competition and games. Adults too can get involved in various types of competitive games.

Al Quoz is a place for those who are looking for a relatively quiet area to live in with their families. Also, when it comes to living here, do expect to run into large vehicles moving in and out of the community as the community has one of the largest commercial areas in Dubai.

Al Quoz is bordered to the north by Al Wasl and to the west by Umm Al Sheif, Al Manara, and Al Safa.
