Residents warned about 'rogue' clothing bins

People have been warned not to use certain clothing bins in a town because they are "not for charitable purposes but to line the pockets of the company owners".

Slough Borough Council said the "rogue" bins had been placed without permission by the company 2020Textiles.

Councillor Ejaz Ahmed, lead member for public protection, said: "Despite what it might look like, 2020Textiles is not a charity, it is a company, whose sole aim is to make money from clothes people no longer want."

The BBC has contacted 2020Textiles for comment.

The council said the company was caught on camera placing a clothing bin at Everett's Corner in Cippenham, and was not authorised to place any bins in the borough.

It said it would be removing any similar bins but warned residents not to use them if they saw them.

Mr Ahmed said: "Unfortunately, residents may be taken in by these rogue bins and, wanting to donate to charity, use them.

"With their kind donation being used not for charitable purposes, but to line the pockets of the company owners, if this company's history is anything to go by.

"We will be removing any more rogue bins as soon as we can, however we would call on residents not to encourage this company and their poor behaviour and, if they want to donate clothing to do so at any registered charity shop, during their opening hours."
