South West Coast Path: Extra route planned in Dorset
- Published
An extra route along an erosion-hit coastal path in Dorset has been proposed by Natural England.
Parts of the extra 42-mile (67km) route from Lyme Regis to Rufus Castle would "run closer to the sea" but go inland where cliff erosion has occurred.
Natural England area manager Fran Davies said the additional route would "give unparalleled views from Dorset's well known and stunning coastline".
The public can submit comments, external to Natural England by 2 September.
The 630-mile South West Coast Path, which stretches from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset, has been affected by multiple landslips in recent years.
The proposed new route on the Isle of Portland would connect with the section between Rufus Castle and Lulworth Cove.
