Were Osewe
Interior Architect & Studio Lead
Nairobi, KenyaI create interiors that merge African cultural identity with contemporary living. My work draws from indigenous craftsmanship, raw and refined materials, and the narratives embedded in our culture—woven into oral tradition, music and dance and rhymes and poetry, etched in our tools, expressed in the drape of our clothes, the textures and patterns of handwoven fabrics, the patina of ritual artefacts, and the precision of time-honoured building methods.
I channel the spirit of our forefathers, the symbolism in beadwork, the cadence of oral storytelling, and the quiet elegance of everyday objects. These elements are not decorative—this is my design philosophy. I translate them into spaces that are personal, modern, and deeply connected to place, reframing African aesthetics as both timeless and unapologetically forward-looking.

Being an Interior Design student was a captivating journey of exploration and creativity. It's a world where every space becomes a canvas, and every corner holds the promise of transformation. From studying the fundamental principles of design and architecture to mastering the intricacies of color schemes and spatial dynamics, the experience is both intellectually stimulating and artistically fulfilling.
While being an Interior Design student, there's a constant interplay between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Each project becomes an opportunity to unravel the nuances of human interaction with their environment, fostering a deep understanding of how design can profoundly impact the way people experience the spaces around them.
