60's space age Glitch Retro thrift stores

The 60’s space age trend developed due to the Space Race, Cold war and many popular science fiction novels as well as movies and series such as Star Trek, Lost in Space and Dan Dare. The people developed ideas and designs based on what they imaged the future to be. Flying cars over circular houses, geometric shape inspired furniture, clothing and accessories in bright solid colours and contrasting combinations. Their idea of the future is seen in the famous cartoon ‘The Jetsons’, where you see flying cars, top notch technology and interiors symbolizing the space age trend form the 60’s.

Coming to now, many decades later people continue to imagine what the future may be like. The idea of a future has turned into something very doubtful with the current situation of environmental issues. Deforestation, climate change, water pollution has all led to an idea of dystopia in the minds of the people. Many movies and series based on the idea of the world ending like 2012, The day after tomorrow, Sacred Games, have given rise to the trend of dystopia and distortion.

By bringing the colourful and imaginative ideologies of the ‘space age’ and giving it a realistic touch of the current trend of ‘distortion’, two different ideas of a future world come together to appeal the young and old by connecting both ages together.
