One of the main important connection from the building is to the open outdoor green spaces in the neighborhood, the two cemeteries and the lakes. It is also important to drag the nature from the cemetery behind the site out to the street. There is a big transition from the cemetery where there are trees, open area and just the sound of birds and to the street where there is a lot of traffic, speeds and more enclosed area.
My concept was to work with visual connection between residents and the street. The house is connected with the existing house using the main entrance and elevator in the house next door which will allow random meetings between residents. Ramps have a big part of the building infrastructure and is also a extended outdoor space.
The idea was to drag the city into the courtyard with view to the cemetery ( green outdoor space) a place that is inviting to the entire city and creating life and social interaction for the area. On the existing house roof there is a vegetable garden for both the inhabitants from the new building and the existing one. One of the ramps leads to this garden from the new building.
The gable of the house is facing south and is thereby optimal for intake of sunlight. The structure of the building consists of concrete and the facade consists of wooden flexible panels that also work like sunscreens that can be manually changed for best use.
