LINE DRAWING
Class: Art 121 Observational Drawing
Instructor: Maggie Myers
Initial Sketches
The purpose of this project was to create a contour line drawing of a still life. Because there would be no shading or color, I decided to look for objects with lots of details and interesting textures. Some of these included a wooden bear ornament, a paper mâché mask, and fabric flowers. I began with a few simple sketches on newsprint to work out a composition I liked.
Final Project
The final piece was made using graded graphite pencils. Each object contains a variety of line weights to create the illusion of depth and maintain visual interest.
Attention to Detail
By using different line weights, I was able to add more detail to the background without the piece becoming too overwhelming.
