Jiyoun Kim Studio collaborated with Chedech to design the Project Arc Cycle, a full carbon bicycle. Chedech is a Korean company that specializes in manufacturing and selling foldable carbon fiber bikes. Although not a mass market brand, it has built a strong global fan base thanks to its high quality craftsmanship and advanced technology.
Chedech has been targeting the high performance bike segment in the folding mini velo bicycle market by utilizing a patented full carbon structure. While this strategy is clear in concept and audience, it has limited the brand’s ability to expand into broader markets, which Chedech aimed to overcome.
Jiyoun Kim Studio approached this project with the belief that Chedech’s carbon fiber expertise should be repositioned not only as a technical feature but also as a driver of emotional and lifestyle-oriented appeal. While carbon fiber is known for its functionality, mainly enabling lightweight and faster rides, it also conveys a premium experience, especially in emotional consumption markets where aesthetics and perception hold equal importance.
Jiyoun Kim and his team preserved Chedech’s legacy of foldable carbon structures while redefining the product with new character lines and design details to suit urban environments. Project Arc emphasizes the carbon material’s premium nature, offering a sporty yet balanced minimalist design tailored for city lifestyles. The bike was developed alongside various accessories, including a storage bag and rack, all designed to enhance both utility and aesthetics in an urban setting.
Project Arc Cycle, the result of this collaboration between Chedech and Jiyoun Kim Studio, was officially unveiled in 2024.
