Azimuth. Design of the Safety instructions

Initially, Azimuth Airlines created safety instructions for itself, focusing on the desire to bring a touch of humanity and humour to the process. This is how the animal characters were created. However, this idea was not properly implemented. The instructions turned out to be cumbersome, inconsistent in style and, as a result, difficult to interpret. 
The main task of the project was not only to rethink the stylistic component of the instructions, but also to radically change the format of the publication. 
It was necessary to reformat the huge, folded A3 manual, which barely fit in the armchair pocket, into a neat, plastic-sealed sheet. Many specific conditions had to be taken into account: limited format, amount of mandatory information, ease and speed of perception, ease of use, etc.

Decision
The vast majority of companies are content with a motley and often borrowed set of images and pictograms for their similar instructions. 
We decided to create our own unique system that would clearly convey the brand's tone. A pictogram-style comic strip was chosen as a convenient means of communication. This format is especially important in an emergency situation, when passengers need to be able to quickly and, most importantly, easily understand what to do.
We drew a unique and friendly set of images. There are men and women, children and teenagers. The inclusion of images of children's toys brought gentle humour and a warm attitude towards young passengers to the publication. A special character construction grid was developed to organise this system. The palette is consistent with the corporate colour scheme, with a dominant positive orange colour. We gave each character a set of emotional traits. This allowed us to transform a dry document into a friendly, stress-relieving form of communication.
  As a result, on the one hand, it was possible to significantly streamline and simplify the presentation of all information, and on the other hand, to unify the style and include corporate symbols and standards in the instructions.
A new communication tool
During the course of our work, we created a huge set of different visual elements, which gave us the idea of creating a structured corporate communication language.
The core element of such communication is an integral part of comics — speech bubbles, which attract text blocks like a magnet. The huge variability of these blocks means that there are virtually no restrictions on the subject matter and size of messages. Thanks to their conciseness, the drawn characters fit organically into any background image, be it a photograph, drawing or 3D object.
The universal and refined graphic language contributes to clear recognition even in the absence of the main symbol — the company logo. We are confident that the developed branding tools will definitely help Azimuth Airlines maintain its position as the leader in regional aviation in Russia.
