As the leaves change colors in the fall, consider changing up your home decor with a fresh coat of paint. Choose a light neutral shade to serve as a backdrop for layers of autumnal red and orange hues, or opt for a dark and moody tone to make a bold statement. To help you select a fall color palette, we've enlisted designers and industry experts to share their best fall paint colors.

"Fall is the richest, most colorful season of all", says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. The right paint color will help you celebrate the vibrancy, inviting warmth, and familiar comfort of the fall season. Whether you choose to paint a bedroom with a fall-inspired shade or you're in search of the perfect dark hue for cabinetry, these fall paint colors exude style and comfort.

"One color that creates a beautiful backdrop for fall tones is Sherwin-Williams' Greek Villa", says interior designer Marie Flanigan. Instead of using a saturated fall paint color on the walls, opt for a neutral base that allows you to layer seasonal touches throughout the year. "I love that this light white color is warm enough to complement beautiful rusts, coppers, deep greens, and other fall-inspired variations," Flanigan says.

For a dark and sophisticated fall paint color, Anastasia Casey of IDCO Studio recommends Caponata by Benjamin Moore. "This color is rich in depth, with eggplant hues that can lean to a beautiful brown," she says. "It's perfect for fall because it has warm undertones that complement the golden haze of fall sunsets and changing foliage."

For a moody effect, Casey suggests using Caponata to color drench a space by painting the walls, trim, and ceiling all the same shade. She notes it's also a fabulous trim color alternative to black or charcoal if you're in search of a dark tone to pair with lighter walls.

For a small dose of this sunshine-drenched yellow hue, consider using it on an accent wall or beadboard in a bathroom, powder room, or mudroom.

The deep tone is a beautiful paint color choice year round, but McCollum notes that it showcases particularly well in a fall palette.

Don't limit yourself to walls and trim when it comes to fall paint colors. Cabinets in a kitchen or bathroom are a great way to showcase a dramatic color, and can be painted fairly easily. For a bold look, interior designer Mary Patton recommends Black Fox by Sherwin-Williams. "I love the contrast of dark cabinets with white and light everything. It provides depth, warmth, and a visual anchor," she says. "It’s actually more of a charcoal color which is a little more forgiving than a true black".

For an ideal transition color to fall, Casey recommends Nantucket Gray by Benjamin Moore. "The color's cooler undertones have notes of seasonal fog without losing the beautiful green hue", she explains. Casey suggests using this fall-inspired warm gray-green shade in a bedroom. "I color drenched our personal bedroom in Nantucket Gray, painting everything from the baseboards to the nickel gap paneling to the ceiling and doors," she says. "If you’re looking to color drench a space in a fall hue, opt for something in a semi-gloss or higher to help reflect light without sacrificing saturation".

It's a striking pick for cabinetry that makes a bold design statement, but McCollum loves that it adds a fun seasonal feel as well. "It’s also perfect for a cozy family room to really set the mood during your annual Hocus Pocus movie night," she says.

"Try the color on kitchen cabinetry as an alternative to the more ubiquitous dark blues and greens", says Patrick O’Donnell, color consultant and brand ambassador for Farrow & Ball. For a fully saturated look, O'Donnell recommends applying Brinjal to all trim and walls, especially if using it in a space as utilitarian as a mudroom.
