Step 5: Take out the drain. You’ll see a bar with holes in it running behind the sink and pipes. This is the clevis strap. On the clevis strap, you’ll see a little clip called the spring clip.

The clevis is a piece of flat metal perforated with a series of adjustment holes. Not all sinks have a clevis. Instead, the pivot rod may connect directly to a vertical rod from the lift knob.

Take a look under the sink at the clevis and pick a lower hole for the horizontal pivot rod to go through so that the pop-up stopper rod is in its lowest position.
