Future HTS-based motors will be large (more than 1,000 hp) ac synchronous motors with an HTS-field winding. These coils will generate a magnetic field of 3 to 5 Tesla, (a Tesla is 1 weber/m2).

This spike in electricity crosses over to the secondary winding, which greatly amplifies it, creating anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 volts.
