Now, that very name, "Mach 4," has been trademarked by Ford, as of Feb. 2025, as reported on by Ford Authority. Apparently, Ford didn’t stop at a Mustang sedan.
After all, Ford already has the Mach-E, a five-door crossover that’s technically part of the Mustang family. But now, a four-door sports sedan is starting to seem like a real possibility.
A four-door Mustang coupe appears to be closer than ever to becoming a reality, because as of Tuesday, as Ford has officially filed to trademark the name “Mach 4” for a motor vehicle.
A Mustang sedan proposal popped up again in 2005 for the S197 generation, but according to Ford Authority, the sedan never made it past the concept stage and was never shown to the public.
The outlet says Ford showed a concept to its dealers back in 2018, with the rumor mill rebooting in 2020. Even though CEOs have changed since then, rumblings of a Mustang sedan haven’t gone away.
