On Nov. 17, 2020, two polar bear cubs were born at the Detroit Zoo: Astra and Laerke. Two days after birth, Laerke had a medical emergency and was removed from the den, the zoo said.

The Zoo invites guests to celebrate Asian elephant Punch’s 53rd and polar bear Qannik’s 12th birthday. The Zoo is located off of Trevilian Way in Poplar Level.

Kali's home in the Saint Louis Zoo has been open since 2015. He is an orphaned polar bear from Alaska.

The zoo says the public will be able to see the cubs in spring 2023. In the meantime, the zoo is livestreaming video from the happy family's den from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The Polar Bear Challenge will begin at 11 a.m., with registration at 10 a.m. at Spring Shores Marina. The fundraising goal for the 2024 event is $66,000.
