RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The neon, Art Deco style light-up “CARYTOWN” sign welcoming people as they drive down Cary Street is experiencing a partial blackout again.
The Neon Garden will showcase six signs outside The Post, each a glowing piece of Main Street history. There’s the towering, bloom-covered display from Watson’s Flowers, which came down in 2014.
The sign’s legs appeared to have been cut open and stuffed with rebar and bricks, with concrete poured into the bottom. “They amputated them,” local preservationist Damian Sullivan said.

The sign was purchased by Friends of the Mother Road, Inc., with a donation from Dr. Joel Braunstein and was housed at Henry’s Rabbit Ranch from 2004-2017, after which it was donated to Neon Park.
